OME 887 with Bilstein 5100

Did anyone have issues with newer model OME coils? I've heard the new manufacturing process led to some bad quality control on newer springs?

 

Ya I heard they were settling more. My front settled 3/4” but I dono which ones I technically have.

 

There's a black Friday deal thru Wheeler's for 20% off Eibach products and I was thinking about picking up these Pro-Lift Performance front coils: They say they add 2.5" and work with the 5100s I have in the front. Does anyone have experience with these and is there a reason I'd buy them over 887s? I like the price but I don't hear ppl talk about the Eibachs that much compared to the OME coils.

 

I've read that they are a little stiffer, but that may all be relative. There are a couple of threads out there about the Eibachs.

I've been doing my research for like the last 3 months solid comparing OME and Bilstein. Me personally, i'm going with the 887 OME setup. I don't need the extended brake lines or need that little bit of extra travel, (I don't wheel that hard), and it also comes with CB drop kit, I don't live in a harsh climate (That could eat away at the coating of the shocks), coils were made for the shocks, etc.

 

Spring rate on 887s is 590# compared to 700# on Eibachs so there's the difference. I'll go with 887 for a softer ride.

 

Are you guys having to put new upper control arms to get correct alignement numbers with this lift? 887s and 5100s that is.

 

I did. I ran the stock UCA when I had 885 and alignment was ok, once I bumped up to 887 and SPC UCAs, the alignment is so much better, easier to get back towards factory spec.

Still waiting for the 887s to finish settling but I'd say right between 1/2 and 3/4 inch.

Thank you sir. So I noticed you're a third gen, so you don't get as much lift out of the ome coils correct? Sorry for so many questions, I'm trying to make sure my buddy gets the correct lift for what he wants on his second gen. I've been a first gen guy and know their ends and outs but not much about the newer tacos. He has a 3 inch spacer lift and wants to replace it with new shocks all the way around and front coils for a better ride. I'm thinking 887s are the way to go. I just put 885s and 5100s on my wife's 4runner and it rides great and we got about 3" out of it .

 

887 should be good for a 2nd gen.

Anybody tried putting the 887 on 5100 and setting the ring on the 2nd notch instead of the bottom? Pictures pls and how does it ride?

 

I believe all OME Coils on 5100's should be at the bottom. Would be preloaded and cause CV issues and wear/tear.

 

Got mine done today.. will measure it in a few days when it settles

 

Hey guys, I've got a DCSB looking to add some weight to my truck. I want a very slight leveled lift to handle small bits of off-roading and aesthetics. It needs to be able to hold up the extra weight from a camper shell, plate bumpers and sliders. What would you recommend? I don't plan on doing any intense off-roading. I also plan to DD it occasionally on days I don't feel like riding my motorcycle to work, etc.
