Many concealed carriers *still* carry in condition 3. Those who carry DA/SA mostly.
The advantage is no worry about accidental discharge once you've ingrained the habit.
    Which is not insignificant.
Similarly, you can ingrain the habit of racking it very quickly in one motion as you present it.

It seems the increasing popularity these days of striker fired, Glock-style handguns has radically simplified things.
But there's still that matter of situational awareness.

In my opinion there is even less of a need to carry a DA/SA pistol with an empty chamber, especially if the weapon is carried with the hammer down (DA). A striker fired pistol is easier to have a negligent discharge with as a result of a light and short trigger pull when compared to the longer and heavier traditional DA trigger. People are free to carry however they feel comfortable but any technique with an empty chamber will always at a disadvantage.

    I get what you're saying.
But yes, some people feel more comfortable that way.

[EDIT] I personally don't like striker fired handguns for the reason you mention.
But I'm too old to change my habits anyway, so...:p

Thays where discipline and composure come into play. I’ve had countless people cut me off or tailgate the shit out of me. I generally just brush it off and let it go and move over so the tailgaters can get up to the traffic or stop light quicker.

Generally? Jeez. So what on bad days you just blow them away, citing some amendment or another at the police station and picking up your congressional medal the following week?

I made a holster and mounted it into the driver side door panel. And, like you, I’m in CA as well so it doesn’t do me any good here but once I get out into a state where my CCW is recognized it goes there.

No, other times I give a wave and a nod when they fly past me. And no, not a 1 finger wave a “yeah, I know you’re in a hurry” without being antagonistic gesture.

    Ha, good one.
It's the felons carrying illegally that one has to worry about, unfortunately.
Not the legal CC permit holders. The latter have too much to lose.

I know, I was just kidding but it is pretty surreal to me to see handguns casually tucked in glove boxes and consoles like it's nothing. Are the rates of armed crime in some areas that high to really warrant fast draw holsters though? Serious question.

Yeah, carrying a gun doesn't automatically take away my respect for human life, or make me a loose cannon. It just prepares me for a situation I hope never occurs again. No different than carrying a fire extinguisher in your truck. How many people have their vehicle catch fire vs get robbed at gunpoint every day?

Yeah, I knew you were kidding.
In some places perhaps. I'm not gonna second guess others' rationale.
    Hey, I hardly ever carry.
Maybe I will if I'm the one that has to do the late night bingo money deposit for the club. :p

When I do carry it, it is very close at hand and ready to use.....and it sure ain't a empty locked weapon in the cab - with the ammo in the bed.

Meanwhile I have my snow brush for self defense. It actually works out because when we have road rage up here the worst that usually happens is we clean off each other's vehicles, say "sorry, eh" and catch a hockey game together that weekend.
