Which is the unfortunate byproduct of the Tacoma's popularity. Joe Blow moving from a Corolla to a Tacoma because they want to be that ruggedly handsome camping guy.
They aren't willing to actually research the truck before spending the money and then want to hit the easy-button when they find it isn't always perfect out of the box.

Yes. This. It drives me fucking crazy, as someone who is ruggedly handsome and often camping/adventuring, it’s disapponting to see the type of people latching onto my gig. I can’t even.

^^^^ My style of camping as well. I don’t want to be ‘at home’ in the outdoors, with all this colour-coordinated shit I’ve brought along. I want to be outdoors like people used to be outdoors. I enjoy roughing it a little, and being a bit random with my cooking and sleeping arrangements. I don’t want to tow a trailer full of titanium cookware, collapsible off-grid computer workstations, and Goretex ear-warmers. I’m good with a sleeping bag, ground tent, cooler (food/beer) and some matches. Simple makes me happy.

I hear ya. It's a simple numbers game. Obviously their research keyed them into what the masses wanted and so they made a truck they thought would make the most people happy. And I don't doubt they succeeded.

A lot of the blow-back on the forum are people like me... we were used to the platform after 20 years in the Tacoma and the 3rd gen change was significant enough that we didn't like it in comparison to what we had before.

I don't think it goes that deep, they just decided to use 1 V6 engine for all platforms across the company. Certainly not ideal for everything, but more than adequate.

You might be right. I really have no idea. I should have noted that I was speculating. But I do presume they do some market research on several levels.

Quite being nice. The six speed transmission sucked. It was really obvious on the freeway in Texas, and we’re pretty flat.

Supposedly that’s fixed. God I hope so.
