That's a great point, but one that is shot-down the first time a buyer or prospective buyer reads TW. lol

this is funny because they tried all that shit on me and i just said no to everything......they asked if i wanted the security package....said no.....all trucks have it but it has to be turned on.....in my case, they were so arrogant and believed I would take it....the truck was outside and ready for me to drive off when we got there.....i could see it while i signed on the dotted lines.....when I said no to security, they kept trying to get me to buy it for $695 or 795.....i kept saying no.....long story short, i have the system and it appears to be turned on.....If i open the hood of the truck and sonly slightly close it, then with door closed and locked, i open the hood, all hell breaks out...lights and beeping horn.....inside when i lock the truck and leave, i have the red blinking light.....so i guess i have it....but they sure tried to make me pay for it

Has not happened here because I read what I sign. I did get the "computer on wheels" speach when I bought my camry and my response was "I'll buy the tools and computers I need". That shut them up. It goes quick when evreyword that comes out of your mouth is "no" to them.

Allow me to be the first to turn THIS thread into the inevitable Gun Thread (hahaha) - "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it".

    My apologies, ladies and gentlemen.

The finance manager at my dealership brought in a special extended warranty sales lady to try and pressure me into an extended warranty. But they were honest and did not try to trick me into signing.

I created a spreadsheet with everything I was willing to pay based on the invoice pricing thread here on TW. Based on my down payment and financing I calculated my interest, total monthly payment, etc... and sent it to my sales guy, let him know this was exactly what I was willing to pay. He agreed to it. Brought my spreadsheet with me on my iPad when my truck arrived. Finance guy and I spent nearly an hour trying to figure out why his payment was $0.19/month different than what I calculated, he was not happy with me. Fuckers got me for an extra $11.40 over a 60 month loan and I still don’t know where it went. I’ll get them back on my 2030 Tacoma purchase...

I hate this room, you and the salesmen are now buddies because the car/truck you want is right there on paper and then have to go to that scary office with always a planter in the corner and some type of dark stained desk that is a little larger than it should be and then have a guy tell you that you "need" to have this shit and that shit, and i am just wondering where the keys are so i can go

No. Sorry, basic math, attention to detail.
I’d never admit to that. Wow. Weak minded. The fact that people are afraid to say “no” is incomprehensible.

On a previous truck I had the finance guy, AKA undercover salesman try the paint protection crap on me. It was close to $1000 and I played along and ask when it would be done, said I had to bring it back in which I told him I didn’t have time for that then he fumbled some papers and said oh I see where we already did it on your truck, told him I didn’t ask for it and wasn’t paying for it and he went on about it already being applied and couldn’t be removed so I stood up and told the Wife that we would look for a truck elsewhere that didn’t have this added charge. He said that he would remove the charge but I’d get no warranty for the paint protection crap. He wasn’t happy that we said NO to everything he ask/told us we needed.

I do like how they give them a nice fancy “Finance guy” title to throw you off but all they are is the last salesman you deal with. At my Toyota dealer there are 3, the one that sells you the truck and works the deal then he takes you to the accessory salesman with the fancy list of overpriced goodies that can be added to the deal, you know the floor mats that only cost you $4 a month lol then off to the finance salesman for your final screwing.

    Wow, just wow.

Guys it's really easy and y'all are making this really hard.

    1. Go test drive a bunch of similar trucks to figure out what you want. Do NOT buy!!! Just tell the salesmen you are not ready to buy yet.

    2. Once you have thought about what you want, go to the MFG website to see what MSRP is. Figure out what any options costs are as well. Find out what the 'mandatory' fees are going to cost you. Like the 'destination fee'. Add all this up. Subtract 7 to 12% percent. Find out what you will pay for tax title license. A call to your DMV will answer this. Figure your sales tax now and then add in your title and licence fees. You now have a reasonable range for what you can expect to pay for your truck.

    3. If you need financing, secure that from somewhere besides the dealer.

    4. Find dealers online who have that vehicle. Go test drive the vehicle. Give the salesman your out the door cash offer. No financing, no warranty, no silly hidden fee costs. If they balk, give them your phone number and tell them you are buying today and are heading to another dealer. And then DO IT! Rinse repeat. You might not get the first dealer to bite, but one will.

Unless it's some really rare desirable model this works. Generally speaking 7 to 12% off MSRP is all you are typically going to get. Do not let them sucker you with all kinds of fees and BS. Secure your OTDP and then discuss your trade. Going into a dealer with no real understanding of what the OTDP is going to be will get you screwed royally. I don't care if you are financing 100% of the cost, don't do the financing at the dealer and don't let them pull the " how much do you want to pay a month" scheme.

In the state of Ohio you can Cancel any extended warranty at anytime. If you cancel within the first 30 days it's a full refund. How You didn't catch that is shocking to me.

I love car dealerships. You need to bring a lawyer, a CPA, and a bodyguard, then you can enjoy the experience.

No you don't. People turn care buying into an 'experience'. DON'T! Figure out what vehicle you want. Figure the realistic out the door price. Shop for financing elsewhere. Go buy vehicle. No one, not you, not the dealer, no one gets screwed that way.

Do your homework! The Only thing you need to buy extra sometimes is gap insurance. But you can also get that from your insurance company. Other then that say no to everything else!
