Depending on what’s on sale the typical box ranges between 5-7 bucks

$70 a year for inspections? They must be crazy! An expired expecting ticket here is $140. I'd let it ride and take the tickets every few years, lol! My problem with Louisiana is that just as other people posted, there is NO emphasis on safety, just making money!

They don't inspect the frames, they don't inspect emissions, just lights, braking and window tint. That's it!

So I have to take like 45 minutes out of my day to remove the tint, 10 minutes out of my day to pay $10, then another 45 minutes out of my day to retint the windows just so they can get their $10 every year!

LoL, my ABS works perfectly, but last time I changed the right rear bearing, I nicked the ring. So ABS light comes on, even though the brakes work as designed.

Last time I brought mine in, ABS light came in, inspector didn't even drive it. Just took the $$$ and slapped on a sticker. He could have driven it, ABS works fine, that's not the issue, it just proves that it's just a money making racket.

Also, in regard to thinking that inspection stickers make people keep their cars in good condition... That's BS, it's the huge fine issued when an accident occurs for not maintaining vehicle that is the deturrant.

Let's face it, EVERYONE here is here because they mod their Tacoma's. So almost no one would pass a full inspection by law.

At least in Louisiana, any aftermarket bumper is technically a violation, tires sticking out past fenders is a violation, even OEM like bumpers made of harder material than from the factory or a violation.

Set your truck up right, let everyone else do what they want is my theory. :)

I think inspections should be mandated and are definitely needed but... to purchase a brand new vehicle and states (any state) to demand that new vehicle be inspected is definitely suspect in my opinion. I think that new vehicle should have a 2 year grace period before its first inspection.

Revenue generating crap, same as tags on small trailers. We have vehicle taxes though, which is also crap. Just paid taxes on my '05- $295. :annoyed:

One of my supervisors at the detail shop does not like heated seats in vehicles. His fiance's Nissan Rogue has heated seats, and describes it as "constantly feeling like he farted" when he used the heated seats!

(actually $295 on purchase of a 2005 is pretty low) at least in Louisiana. 4% usage tax plus difference in sales tax, trade in credit, registration fees, you go too low on bill of sale, they tax full NADA amount. So best case, you would would be waaaay above $295.

Last I checked it is $68 alone just to transfer title.

I somewhat agree with you, unless that new vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it before the 2 year grace period like mine do. I drive 50-60k miles annually and have needed brakes before 2 years on vehicles I owned in the past.

I probably live near you. There’s a lot of places like that around my area still....The older I get the more I appreciate the need for annual safety inspections, but I think they go overboard with the emission BS which ends up costing folks a lot of money needlessly.

FL has no inspections. Riding the wildwest roads here is a crap shoot. Tons of garbage cars to dodge. FL is where cars and old people come to die.

    This^

I’ve lived in PA my entire life and have been driving for 20 years. Never had a problem passing inspection in any of my vehicles.

However, the first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread was the shady ass OHIO garbage that I see commuting to Pittsburgh every day. Makes me laugh that I have to pay ~$80ish a year for a couple of stickers and some jagoff with an Ohio plate can wobble by me at 85mph in a rusty old Ford Probe with smoke billowing out of the exhaust. Go buckeyes :jerkoff:

Just had the oil changed today, and I've been running full synthetic for over a year now. Next time I get the oil changed will be 100,000 miles!
