Are there any CB shops near Houston?

I have searched all over and I can't seem to find a CB shop anywhere around Houston. Does anyone know of one? I need a NGP antenna before Sunday and I don't want to waste my money on a Radio Shack 4' ngp

 

NGP is that a brand?..how long of an antenna do you need/want?

 

I-10 East in Baytown Exit 789 I think. Its the exit where the Flying J, Pilot,TA and a Valero truck stop is at. When you exit go towards the noth east side of the intersection and look for the Valero truck stop. In the back there is a little trailer house. I dont know their name but alot of truckers stop there.

they dont really have a great selection of antennas tho, just firestik i think

 

Well what ever type of antenna your looking for im sure that you can find it there. The Flying J has a nice selection of antennas.

Skip premos, head east a few more exits. 4g's radio shop. Good shop.

or, i'll sell you a 4 ft firestik antenna. i have an extra one.... $15.

 

NGP is a no ground plane antenna. Its designed for fiberglass or plastic bodied vehicles when you don't have a good enough ground to keep the SWR down.

My SWR is 3.5-10. I donot think there's enough adjustment in my current firestik to get it down.

I called Premo's and he doesn't have any NGP antennas in stock.

 

it's on your tacoma right? where did you mount your antenna and where did you ground the mount?

 

I have the mount attached to the bed rail, and the ground is ran from the mount to the frame.

 

and you checked the ground on the mount? i wouldn't think you would need a ndp antenna, it should have grounded out.

I didn't check the ground. It was getting late after I attached the ground, and I was getting eaten alive by mosquitos, so I just tested the swr real fast before deciding i needed a new antenna.

Ill try and test it tomorrow.

 

Update:

I checked the ground and it was good. The one thing I did find was that the wires going to through the SWR meter were backwards. My cheap meter is not labeled.

So I tuned and tuned then tuned some more and finally got the Ch.1 swr to 1.2 and Ch. 40 is at 2.5.

I know it's still a little "long", but I couldn't get it any better than that. I think it should be ok to operate now.

 

Glad it was something simple and it worked out.

 

I did notice that the swr spiked waay up when i tried to put the antenna closer to the cab.

 

Charlie's Airwaves in Stafford/Mo City.. I think it is still around.

 

They deal in HAM Radio. Probably a good idea not to go in there asking about CB radio. Unless you want to get into HAM Radio which I highly recommend being a licensed HAM myself. Most HAMS, and for good reason, don't like the world of CB.

I would don the thickest anti-offensive suit you got. Charlie is an old man.. and I mean old school.. and if you're easily offended.. probably best you not go there. Nice guy though if you can look past that other stuff.

 

Charlie's not that bad! Actually.. hell, he was an OLD man when I was a teenager looking for my first CB (Age 16). Guess he is even older now..
