I have a 2018 TRD OR and I just got to drive a 2019 PRO at the St. Louis auto show. The PRO handle the exact same pot holes and sewer cap mounds waaaay better. So my question is: Does any aftermarket suspension out there compare to the PRO? Or should I seek out a used take off set ?
I’m not looking to lift the truck at all, nor am I looking to spend $3800 for a new PRO set up.

Get front and rear Kings extended travel for way less than that overpriced $3,300.00 non adjustable junk.

There's so much wrong with this statement... where to start?

    • No body is paying $3300 for Pro take offs. $1500 will get you a complete set in like new condition.
    • The pro 2.5 is not junk. OP stated it drives way nicer than the stock OR, because it is way nicer. It's a legit 2.5 shock and is specifically tuned to a stock Tacoma.
    • It is non-adjustable... which is why I swapped mine out. If you're adding weight, winch, bumper, armor... it might not be right for you.
    • Check out Headstrong offroad for comparable systems, or search the BST forum or CL for Pro take offs.

Correct but if he or she wants new it's $3,300.00 and for that money you can get way better stuff than that OEM stuff. Which is why you see most people that spend money on the Pro usually take it out and upgrade it to adjustable Kings or Foxes or Icons.

You could get Extended Travel Kings Front and Rear and ICON Delta Joint UCA's for less than that overpriced OEM stuff. And still have money left over

Did you read OP's post? Or did you just immediately hop on the OEM is garbage and Kings make sense for everyone's uses, bandwagon?

Skip all the Kings, Icon and other overpriced stuff that’s just going to leak and require rebuilds. Those shocks are for vehicles that are much more capable than a Tacoma ever will be. On our trucks they mostly equate to bragging rights, and wheel-arch bling over a true performance upgrade.

Buy a nice inexpensive set of Billstein 5100s. You will have the same improved experience on-road over the crap stock Toyota OR Billies, and if they ever fail you, just buy another set.

Yes he asked if there was any aftermarket stuff that is comparable to the Pro stuff. So I gave him ideas that was better and cheaper over the $3,800.00 he stated. Even for $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 he could do better than what comes on the Pro. Not trying to start a War, but OEM stuff is usually inferior to quality aftermarket parts. And if the stuff that came on the Pro was so good why does everyone rip it off and sell it?

And yes I guess I go crazy recommending Kings sorry about that. I have had OME 887's on 5100's for years and love them. I only upgraded due to an awesome deal I got.

I'd shop around. You can find pro take offs for a reasonable price , and if you don't want to lift then it's be a great way to go.

If you want to lift, or might add weight, then adding a lift kit might be the way to go.

sounds like a good used low mileage set of the TRD pro suspension would be perfect for you.

A lot of us in the north east blow 5100s, so as I said, too general of advice. And regarding overpriced stuff that just going to leak? Just not true. Some people might have issues. But they're not the majority by far. And those reasons could be due to aubuse or failure to maintain.

My point is, 5100s are a noted improvement for the average joe, who will not benefit from remote reservior Kings with adjustable damping. For most people, the main reason to get Kings is so other bros can see that blue anodization poking out behind their wheels. 5100s is a major upgrade to the stock OR billies, and is “cheap and cheerful”.

More advanced and pricey systems are out there, but there is a point of diminishing returns where you are paying for slight improvements and technologies most people will never need, use, or even understand. A lot of new Taco owners just upgraded from a corolla, so a dedicated desert racing shock is mostly a waste of their money, IMHO, and might actually cause them grief as the adjustable systems with replaceable seals and remote reservoirs are often more prone to leaking, due to their complexity.
