Now that I've looked, it looks like I only went up one size... 265/70/17

    No lift.

Look into DuPont Imron paint if it still available. Excellent Automotive paint that does not scratch or chip. I prefer it over powder coat.

No my wheels are not painted. I have painted many other high wear items with Imron and they have held up very well through the years. Front door to our house, Harley Davidson frame, Automotive chassis components, etc. All have held up to the elements.

Sounds like a good product!!The guy that’s going to be doing the painting also custom painted our Harley and we’ve had no issues with that. I’m curious to see if it’s the same product that you’re talking about.

I am certain he can use a self etching epoxy primer to bite into the aluminum if he strips the wheels down to the raw metal. Might be able to paint over the scuffed factory finish with a sealer and then Imron. Remember tractors being sprayed with Imron and the finish standing up to all types of road de icers, weather, dirt and tree sap. Imron was the best. Hope it is still available.

My roommate has done a set of wheels with automotive paint, and another set with plastidip where he actually sanded and primed (essentially making it permanent). Both came out surprisingly well and have lasted.

A good powder coat finish is way stronger than paint. But 90% of powder coat jobs / outfits are shit, and a 1/2 decent paint job will be just as strong (probably stronger) as a crap powder coat. The main difference between quality job on both finish is powder while a lot stronger is not UV protected, (on a wheel not so much of a problem), but that’s why many quality powder coats actually have a paint clear coat on-top. Most OEM wheels are painted. But neither will stand up to wheel spinning in deep mud or equivalent.
If you are going to powder coat the oem wheels, they need to be striped / blasted and then baked before even applying powder, that will cost you. And no matter what anyone says, if that’s not done first the quality and strength will suffer.

Just use Rust-Oleum. People laugh but I never have to touch up.

Easy touch up if you do. I have the same plan.

I could buy the 4R pros but the stock actually look pretty good blacked out. I got quoted $150 a wheel to paint, so having a pro do it at that cost is a no go. Have issues with it? Upgrade wheels.

I had a grand Cherokee a few years back,. I picked it up at the dealer and drove to a Staples parking lot and painted the wheels still on the car. No tape, just a spray can and a piece of paper. I drove in circles riding the brakes for a minute to get the paint off the rotors. Looked great and no Ill effects for 3 years then sold it. Point is they haven't gotten away with selling this paint for 100 years because it sucks . Everyone needs to find the new fangled solutions with no record of success because it came out yesterday. Just go to home Depot and cut the shit. I have to take a dump .

If you go up another size will you have to do anything for the tires to fit?
