That part always is. People talk about salesmen like they're the untrustworthy ones, but it's the finance dept that are the real snakes. You can't believe anything they tell you you're getting, you have to read everything. I've had this happen to me as well.

Has anyone actually got a check as a refund when they cancelled one of these? I don't have one, but I was told a while ago that if you cancel, you get a pro-rated credit, credited to your finance payments.

With Toyota's reputation for quality I can't understand how anyone grabs one of these. After you hammer the salesman for every dollar on the selling price, but then drop $2-$3K on a warranty? These finance people are scum.

I have gotten a check before. Someone said they apply it to loan. Not in my case. My first truck when I was 21. Didn’t even know they slipped it in. Found it a month later...cancelled, check came to my house for prorated amount.

Same here. Finance guy cut the price twice
Him:- "It's normally $2700, but this weekend only, for Black Friday weekend, it's $2200.
    Me:-"No, I don't want it"
    Him:- "How about $1600?"
Me:- "Still no." He then moved on.

yea.... a friend and i bought two computers...we got certain hardware and cards....when we went to pick his up, we checked it our and they had changes all the inside to crap stuff...well they finally put back everything and we started to leave and I asked then how he wanted my payment when mine was finished....the arrogant little bastard said “george Washington’s........i said ok........4 days later he called and said it was ready....went to bank and got $2585 in $1 bills in a bank bag....Got to store and we checked out the computer to make sure they built it right.....asked how he wanted payment and he still said George Washington’s.......went to car and got bag of $1 and dumped it on his desk.....you should have seen he face...everything there was pissing in their pants and panties......took him 1:45 min and three counts to get it right .....you think he was pissed......you bet....he first said he would not take it but i reminded him that on two occasions that was what he said he wanted....also, I reminded him we were in the USA and all currency was legal tender.....what a fun day I had

Alternator went out on my FJ at 120k miles. $700+ just for the alternator. Toyota reman was $375. I figured the bill through Toyota would have been near $1k if I had them do the work. A $1200 bumper to bumper is a good valued hedge.

They also give you a loaner vehicle under the warranty which helps If you don't have alternate transportation

True that! So sometimes there’s more value than simply parts. It’s labor, some convenience, loaner, etc. I did my own alternator, but had to buy a $30 tool to help me unload the serpentine belt, so I was over $400 into what used to be able to be fixed for like $125.

Crazy how advanced things are and how much basic things have changed. Many newer alternators have some sort of decoupling pulleys, haven't had to work or study up on any yet but it would not surprise me if there is a special tool involved.

It was mostly a 'breaker bar' to release the tension, but if I recall correctly it took a 5/8th socket or something like that.

It's fun to see their demeanor change when you tell them flat out that you don't need to go through all the BS because you won't be adding any extra crap to the bottom line. F those guys.

I also bought one a month ago and spent too much. I realized I spent too much and called the TFS warranty number....it was pretty easy to cancel - minus having to figure out where to send goddam FAX in 2019. Turns out I had to get my truck up to 88 mph to go back to 1990 to find a fax machine. It takes a couple of weeks, so I recommend following up to make sure they received the fax and are processing it before the 30 days is up. You can purchase one again anytime before the 3/36 is up....I may shop around in a couple of years for one depending on how my ownership is going.

I had my phone out in clear view.. doing my own calculations.

Also got the 10 year/100k mile warranty for 900 -- he started me at 2500 and I Google searched what people we paying and showed a few posts of people saying they paid $900 and he matched it.

You definitely want them to know you're checking every number and doing your own due diligence (even in front of them via Google on your phone haha).

$900... I messed up! Didn’t think that was possible. I asked if they would throw it in for free and he smiled at me like “yeah right” but he didn’t even try to negotiate the price of warranty.

When I bought my truck I just worked with the sales guy, no "come to the finance office" BS. He had a couple sheets of paper with their extended warranties, rust protection etc info on them. Said if you're interested look thru these, I said "no thanks" and he stuck em back in his binder.

    Easy peasy.

That’s Toyota for you. Lol. They did the same thing to me. I called and cancelled within 30 days and it was refunded to my loan.

I'm having a meeting Wednesday with the head of finance, dealer community representative, general manager, and the douche that I dealt with in finance. She has told me he may be getting fired.

They asked me what I want, what will make me happy. I said I want the warranty taken off and they will NEVER have my trust as a dealership. How do I get that back?

    Stay tuned.
