I saw that but...apparently he wheels enough to get stuck in the mudrpyqxrxKyMXHnavCpZzV.gif just pointing out that if OP wants to wheel occasionally AND he might encounter this again, M/T's might not be a bad idea...;)

This right here. That truck had no business going in there. Also, with standing water, you have no idea if the ruts were made with 33s or 44s.

Since to OP has a TRD OR, at least he has a halfway decent place to hook a tug strap. A much better attachment point is something that you can hook a shackle to. It amazes me when people go out wheeling in serious mud with no attachment points.

Also, NEVER EVER EVER use a chain or cable as a snatch strap. I once saw a broken chain go through the back window of a truck and busted open a girls head. They rushed her to the hospital. I don't know what the outcome was.

I use and have used "tow straps" you can get them with the loops too and not just the hooks. Have you ever seen a snatch strap break? It acts like a giant rubber band and when they break WOW! it's like a giant rubber band. Both can be extremely dangerous and you should use caution and common sense around all recovery efforts.

All our trucks have a decent tow/recovery point in the front on the DS it's welded to the front. I've used the crap out of this point on my truck and others. The rear is a different story if you have the receiver that's your recovery point.

I'd have kept a short strap already connected to my front and just draped it over my driver mirror If I was just going to commit to it.

Shoot since he doesn't want to get into the M/T world there are a lot of good more aggressive hybrid/ A/T tires that will do better than K02. I am not a fan of those either I think they are over hyped and from what I've seen not nearly as good as some others on the market.

It is all part of learning how to drive off road and learning your, and your trucks limitations.

That mud hole was just deeper than i thought. I should have gotten out to check before hand but here we are. I think i would have been fine if i would have stayed out of the ruts and carried more speed...lesson learned. I have Wildpeak at3w's. Theyre great tires but definitely no m/t's. First thing im doing is purchasing a pressure washer then replacing the diff fluid. Ill keep an eye on the brake fluid as well.20190127_173639.jpg

That's how the fun begins and glad you're investing in a power washer. Toyota makes a solid truck/SUV, I have used them in many different countries, environments and situations.

If you drive in locations with a lot of standing water, do the differential breather relocation mod.

In order to activate the ATrac you must be in 4lo and in park. If you activate the A trac plus the rear diff lock your truck will have a lot more traction however this doesn't help with deep ruts. Assessing the situation and picking the right line will help significantly. As far as recovery gear goes a Hi-lift is nice but make sure you read and understand how to use it also keep it clean and well lubed. Kinetic ropes are also a great tool and so is a shovel.Oh and do a rear diff breather mod you dont want to get any of that mud nasty in your diff

I agree i dont think ATRAC would have helped me but id like to know its working correctly. Ill have to go back out there, prepared this time, and check it out. I was always meaning to do the diff breather mod but never got around to it. Is there a mod for the front as well?

I believe the front breather in stock form ends up almost the same height as the top of the engine cover so it's already pretty high up if I recall correctly.

The rear is the main one you would want to worry about, I re located it in my gas door area myself. Nice looking truck btw.

Let us know if there was any water in there without the diff breather mod, just wondering.

I ran mine up to the storage compartment on the DS of the bed.

Nothing like being framed to feel helpless. I had a buddy call me from an undeveloped section in our community. TRD OR but none of the fancy bells and whistles help when your sitting on your frame.

Having good tires is also a night and day difference with clearing out the lugs for the slick mud

Thats just caked on mud. The only damage i could see so far is the chain safety eyelet is bent from being pulled on. Without a shovel, thats the only hookup point i could get to.
