Found my battery drain issue is my winch. Pulled out my multimeter this weekend and start measuring amps across to the battery and when I connected the leads, it would spark making the connection. It also showed power draw on the meter. Now I have to figure out why it is pulling power when it shouldn't be doing anything.

 

Makes me want to put a switch on mine now.... what brand winch is yours?

Engo. Mine has a nice juicy 1 aught gauge wire running to the control box and then to the winch with no fuse or breakers or switch.... I found my battery swelled in December. Truck started fine before I noticed it. Replaced it thinking it was just an old battery, then started having the battery drained issues later in December. I unhooked my 3 external connections to my battery and it resolved that problem. So now trying to track this one.

I have a blue seas battery switch that can handle the amps, I just never took the time to cut the big wire and put two terminal ends on it. Wish I had prior to this. I'll also be looking for some form of a breaker I believe.

 

I’ll have to do some research but I’d like to set mine up with a relay that will switch on when the key is turned. That way I never forget to disconnect or connect my winch. No idea if it’s feasible yet but maybe. This has me thinking.

I don't know that you will really find a relay that can handle 350+ amp. Just finding the switch was pretty hard. I'm ok with needing to pop my hood and turn the switch to power the winch. My biggest nightmare is that a rogue radio signal would tell the winch to retract or extend while driving down the road. I don't want my bumper to pull itself apart or to run over the rope at highway speeds. Both scenario's scare me.

 

My next step will be to pull the control box off the firewall and open it up. It is possible there is corrosion inside it. Those big wires don't make any part of this process easy or fun.

Was my daily for 3 years, now its my wifes dailey and family vehicle. And i still go hard.

 

3 car seats, jbl subwaffer takes up 60% behind the seat. Other 40 is where we put the extra meds, tp, and wipes while on a trip. All other times its empty. The under seat has my

$105 viair 88p portable compressor kit (12V, 120 psi, forup to 33" tires)

viair 88p and my deflator.


Oh and cheapo seat back storage things for the kids.

 

Anybody else ever done yard work in prep for snow? Lol

Just cleared some leaves and dog crap out of the yard so its clean and can be enjoyed when it snows.

 

You don’t enjoy wallowing in dog crap accidentally when making snow angels?

 

It was more for the dogs actually because they love the snow and I don't want them thrashing through it bringing mud and dog shit back in the house lol
