Hi all, some buddies and I are planning a road trip from SF to Portland in late March. We're thinking of camping and wheeling during this trip. Putting this out there to see if you guys know of any trails up north that we can drive through on the way up. Easy to Moderate trails preferred.

Usal Beach/ Sinkyone Wilderness is a nice mini trail this time of the year. Not super technical, but the scenery is worth it. Great camping along the way too.

Have you camped there? If so, any recommendations on camping?

Don't they close the entry gate to Usal on Hwy 1 from around 10/15 every year until the following 4/15?

They usually do, it is still open thus far this year. We haven’t had too much bad weather to justify closing it. I have to head that way pretty often for work and it’s been open to date.

Not enough to have a build thread.
Some people wont post here due to making a trail more exposed on the internet. Also, if you could define what you call easy - moderate and maybe how built your truck is so we can better guide you to fun spots

Good point on making trails widely known if posted here. If it's easier for people I can take a PM and keep it a secret.

Our rigs have 2-3" lifts running 33" tires. No winch but we'll have recovery/tow straps. Our easy/moderate would be trails that can typically be handled by stock rigs and some that might be easier to do because of a lift. We can handle 90% of trails down at Hollister SVRA so I'm thinking nothing crazier than those?

    I hope that helps.

    same shit as everyone else
Depending on snow... devils peak is pretty awesome. Just drive up mt Ashland to the top and keep going west. Although most good spots WILL be pretty chocked with snow that time of the year.

Look up Browns camp for some dedicated off-road trails that range from easy to extreme.

you sure its still open? Mendocino county is showing that CR431 is closed. If you say its still open I may head that way this weekend!

    Seasonal Road Closures
Effective November 16, 2018, the following road segments are CLOSED until further notice:
    • Usal Road (Key Lock): CR 431 MP 6.26 - 24.3
So it looks like you can get 6.26 miles in on the road from the Mendo side which I THINK will get you to the beach, but then you have to go out the way you came back in. But that key lock note makes me wonder if they still have the gate closed at the Mendo side or do we think the gate is closed at MP 6.26? and you can travel beyond said point if you have a key to the gate?

Humboldt side is still open as of today, I was there about 9 hours ago. You can't get all the way through though, at least until april.
