Here's a great one:

Walk into dealership in Oregon.
Present AZ drivers license with Oregon address (AZ license good until my 65'th birthday mind you, with no requirement for "new photo").
Purchase vehicle with the low low Oregon sales tax rate of 0%.
Purchase OR vehicle insurance.
Plates & registration mailed to PO box on AZ license. Registration is in Oregon county with no emissions or inspection.

I miss having an AZ license. Don't so much miss having the OR plates.

Castrol oil plus filter for $25 at AutoZone. Besides, the car is running just fine.

That can be a sticky slope.

Example, my truck didn't have the factory fogs. I bought a set and wired them. If I ever got failed for the fog light, a protracted argument would ensue as they can't prove the truck left the factory with them.

 

Agree to a point. In theory the new car should be safe, but shit happens. I read somewhere else on here about a couple of new car purchases in their family that had loose front end, CEL, and so on.

 

Yes, issues like this do happen. Also, as @Blockhead noted some people drive enough miles in one year to warrant an inspection, I think there could be a stipulation added to the current law in cases such as mileage.
I think the current codes on NEW vehicle inspection have more to do with revenue than safety, as others have posted.
@ABA180, this family you mentioned, had they paid for inspection on delivery of the new vehicle?

 

Why does he use them, if he doesn't like them?

 

He doesn't anymore, and his Silverado doesn't have them.

Skewp looks cool but is a PIA the glare is horrendus an makes it harder to see over hood some when wheeling.
