Yes! Engine lights on he says for o2 sensor and he replaced both sensors but not with denso brand which he said would be only ones it would sufficiently read to take light off. He’s my neighbor as well. Having an issue just with this paint they put on the hood or I guess to start repaint the hood from sun fading or something .. see pic below. Only issue with it really that id like to get fixed as cheap as possible CB76A178-5878-4705-B5B0-C13F3CE6B997.jpg

Hell yeah. That's a sweet truck. I'd like to find something like that locally as well someday to fix up. I love project vehicles

I'm replacing the lower balljoints on this super clean 96, one owner AZ truck with a 2.7 and 107k miles. I offered to buy it but he's never selling. Good answer.

Damn, That's gotta be the best looking truck I've seen......

Just in case you wanted to see what your mall crawler would look like if you chose to get it dirty......i have the offroad version of your truck...lol

Regular cabs are by far my favorite body style but I had to give up on finding a manual TRD V6. Not even sure if they exist.

Hey anybody in here with the Regular cab 4x4 M/T. Help please! I’m trying to repair my driveshaft for vibrations but my 96 regular cab is different looking driveshaft then all my other buddies Tacoma’s. They have Ext cab and A/T. So I know that’s a difference. But my truck has a very short driveshaft with no Center Bearing holding it up. Is this custom or is that how the regular cab 4x4 MT are?? Someone with this set up send me a pic of their driveshaft please. I’m lost. I’m sitting here thinking my truck is a Frankenstein that got jerry rigged.

You're OK. Not having a carrier bearing on a regular cab is OEM.

Yep my reg cab is a one piece and it seems a lot of people have trouble with the double cardan joint and cb so +1 for single cabs?

Ok well then. If I got the vibrations do to “U joints” mine are the CV joints on both ends of my driveshaft. I’m assuming those are going out and Toyota says those are “unfixable” do I need to buy a whole new driveshaft?? I’m glad I found this thread because regular cab 4x4 MT are rare from what I’m finding. The driveshaft for my specific truck is rare to find on Toyota websites and the only aftermarket part I found was a Dorman

    https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-68...ke=Toyota&model=Tacoma&parttype=Drive%20Shaft

Idk if going to a shop to get a custom driveshaft or buying this questionable aftermarket part is my move. Or if someone knows how to repair the OE shaft and “cv” joints I’ve got and can send me some info.

This website is the S*it! I should’ve been involved years ago. I’ve only been lurking and not posting.

You should have a single joint at the diff and a DC at the tail shaft out of the trans.

K so is the DC replaceable. I replaced the single u joint and it reduces vibration a lil so I know it’s the other end. Excuse my mistakes earlier on thinking I had 2 DC joints. In my handbook and other threads people are saying DCs from this era aren’t repairable.

And that aftermarket $650 dollar driveshaft from Dorman is expensive. But they also claim their DC joint is “new and improved” so when the DC wears out u can replace it on their model.

I started working on my suspension last year and now like 3000$ later and many many fixes this truck is kicking my ass. But she’s only got 151k on her and I can feel smooth sailing coming. Or I’m just addicted to fixing anything that may need some care on my truck.

Have you lifted the rear at all, and if so, how much and what did you lift it with?
Get the truck to a driveline specialist for the DC replacement if you are unable to repair it yourself. At the least, pick his brain on what the issue may be.

Only have a 2” body lift. That shouldn’t effect driveshaft angles I believe. The DC joint is in obvious bad shape. My Tacoma mechanic buddy was looking at it like a space ship landed on him. And didn’t know how to replace. I will dig deep to find a decent DC joint replacement or bite the bullet for a new driveshaft. I just repaired all suspension and steering parts with alignment. So I don’t think that is the vibration problem. I’m almost sure it’s the DC joint. Watch once I repair this it’s gonna lead me to something else until I’ve replaced the whole damn truck.

You don't need to replace the entire drive shaft. The drive line guy will know if it's bad or not. Can you grab the DC and feel any movement... up/ down, sideways?

Yup jiggle jiggle wiggle wiggle. Clank noise that sounds familiar to the louder clunky noise I get when the truck is moving in higher rpm. Especially after I accelerate and need to slow down suddenly. The vibration and noise gets real noticeable.

Be easy on it till you get it fixed. I'd be concerned of the output bearing and seal.
