Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
    Not today, but yesterday...

The temps got up to a balmy 25degF, so I tried once again to get into the bed with the Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite tonneau. No luck. It's frozen solid. We've had a frequent and unusual combination of sleeze (rain and ice combo somewhat like a Slurpee, some call it "sleet") and frigid temps this year.

I've come to like the hard tonneau (came with the truck, originally I had planned to take it off), but in the past month there have been several times I haven't been able to get into the bed for a week. The seal on the tonneau pretty much welds itself to the tail gate, so I can't open that either.

Surely I can't be the only one having this problem. What does everyone else in colder climates do to access their bed when they need to?

Sure would be nice to be able to get to my snow brush/broom.

I have a Bak Revolver X2 cover. It can also freezes in cold wet weather. On occasion, I have had to slip a very thin knife blade in to break the seal between the cover and the tailgate. Sometime I cannot roll it up because it also freezes along the side. Great cover for California or Florida.

Here is this week's high daily forecast in southern Ontario: -20C = -4F

Great. I'm moving to Canada. It's warmer. (tomorrow's high here is supposed to be -16F = -27C).

I DO have a can of spray de-icer. Guess where. Go on, guess. :annoyed:

I'll give the silicone spray a try, and maybe pick up another can of de-icer too.

Thanks! Honestly hardest part was wire management and trying to aim the wires through to where the switch is mounted once through the firewall. The install itself was easy, I watched the Cali Raised video tutorial they have on YouTube

Random thought for those in sub-freezing areas with Tonneau covers.

Use pipe heater tape on the rails mounted on the bottom of the cover rails and the back edge of the cover. It could be plugged into the bed outlet and would only run when you have the switch on to defrost the cover.

It may be worth a try. :notsure:

Seriously. Something to think about. Another thought would be a small space heater w/fan inside the bed.

Here in Illinois the legal tint is 35%. State trooper saw me at a stop light in town this morning and waved. I have 20% on the front 2 and 35% on the back 3.

Another thought would be to rent a trailer from U-Haul if you need to haul something in the winter. Leave the tonneau closed till spring.

Thanks. I solved the issue another way. I moved south where you hear things like "There is a freeze warning?!?! Holy crap the high is only going to be about 50?? I am gonna freeze my :censored::censored::censored: butt off!!" Of course the person saying that is wearing shorts, flip flops, and a PARKA!!

    Good luck!!

Edit: One of the tops Dr's ever. I was a fan before Baker was the Dr. He was IT till the reboot.
