Hate to bust bubbles, but all the gas around here comes from the exact same "pipe" at Kinder Morgan. Only difference is which lever gets hit for the detergents and additives. I used to try to do the same thing until I started calling on them and saw at least 1 truck for every brand filling up their tankers.

My bad, bored in a hospital waiting room. Right down the street from the gas stations in question.

    A thing or two...
The gas maybe the same, but the detergents/additives are what determines a brand's Top Tier status. Besides, it's essentially the same price (typically less than a dollar or two per tank) to fill up at a station that's a Top Tier brand vs one that isn't. Maybe there's a benefit, maybe there isn't. Either way, it's worth the piece of mind (or delusion).

Makes perfect sense to me. And if you receive piece of mind then it makes it even better. Just putting in my tiny bit of experience so if ever needed you wont need to put yourself in a dangerous position in order to keep the piece of mind.

I honestly couldn't tell you what gas prices even look like right now. Haven't checked in years. I figure it is what it is and I need the gas so it's going to cost whatever it costs.

There’s a truck like mine but has a snorkel on it. I see him once in a while on Tidewater trail/route 2

Not really, that is how I am with all of my vehicles. Doesn't matter if it's the taco, 4runner, ram or yaris. When it needs gas I just stop at a reputable looking place and get gas.

I'm more worried about it in the WRX than the Tacoma since the WRX is turbo and direct injection. However, if I absolutely need gas, I'll stop and fill up or, at the very least, put in a few gallons to get me to a Top Tier station. The majority of name brands are Top Tier rated, so it's usually not hard to find a station. https://www.toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/

That's my feeling on it as well. Prices are what they are, so I just look on gas buddy at the top tier stations on my commute and stop at whichever is cheaper. I have started using the GetUpside app on my phone, which offers cash back on gas purchase. It's only a few cents per gallon, but it'll add up over time. I do the same thing with grocery coupons with an app called Ibotta.
