Dude if that ain’t your wife telling you to build a new garage to hold a pit so large it wouldn’t fit in the old one then I’m not sure what is. :boink:

Hey guys, my wife's parents got me an electric smoker for christmas and I have been smoking some amazing meats. I've done a few whole chickens, some pork loin and brisket so far. The smoker is masterbuilt and there's only an analog thermometer. Is there a way i can do some kind of probe that can stay in the meat the whole time and run up through the exhaust hole in the back so i can stick it on top of the smoker to monitor meat temp instead of opening the door and checking that way? Sorry I'm new to all of this. Thanks!

    Justin

That's exactly what you can do! or just close the wires in the door jam. But a secondary probe for temp monitoring is always a good place to start.

I've used this one for many years and like it:

Thermoworks will pop up too as a great option as well.

    Welcome to the addiction.

I really do bulk stuff once or twice a year is where I would use it. my other one would be for all the odd jobs as it's more portable. But, there are always better things I can save for too... like a trailer pit...

I picked up this handy thermometer probe on Amazon for under $25. The nice thing about this one is that it has a magnet that will stick to the side of your smoker and the wires fit between the door. You can also get fancier but I'm a simple man... well a cheap man and didn't want to pay another 10 or 20 dollars for blutooth.

Ahh that's what I need. So one probe is for meat temp and the other is for internal smoker temp right? Now if my smoker had an external access to change the chips then i'd be set!

I’m not real fond of BT for them, ranges tend to be flakey. I’ve got a ThermoPro, it’s the one listed in the products below, got it Prime Days for a good deal. Works great and I can tell the temps in the house while I’m prepping other things and doing other stuff. :)

can set up probes for whatever. both meat, both pit. One Pit and one meat is how I ran em.

Lots of options on brands and people will post up sales on the Thermoworks ones every now and then in here too.

Most of them you can use both probes for meat or smoker temp. You just set it to the right mode.

ok awesome. yeah the last time I smoked, i had a chicken and pork loin on so it would be nice to keep control of two different meats at the same time.

My next thing to do is jerky and sticks so I'm reading back through some previous pages for info on those. I just found this discussion after being on 2nd Gen owners for quite some time. More reason to keep my sidetracked from doing work!

I have a MES smoke as well.
I use this thermometer and fish the 2 probes through the top vent. One is for the air temp and the second for the meat.

that one's nice. and cool with a case. Looks like i'll be ordering on Amazon pretty soon! i've been looking around and have looked at the ones you all have posted on here. My dad went out and bought the same smoker I got and he loves his too. I just sent him some links so he'll be getting a thermometer too lol
