It probably depends on the dealer. I didn’t know you had to be spot on with the 5k services, or that you even needed them to maintain warranty. I showed up with 26500mi, and the service guy changed it to 25000 otherwise I couldn’t have gotten the 5000mi check up.

Weird the dealer did that, that’s not factory specs. Probably a way for them to milk more $$$ from you.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but some of you guys on here are more full of shit than a Christmas turkey. The right way to take it is...some of you guys on here are more full of shit than a Christmas turkey. It never hurts to put new oil and a new filter on a vehicle. At anytime during its lifespan. Granted, if you plan to live a life of buying new cars every three to five years, then yeah, go ahead and trust what you read on the net, cuz' it ain't gonna matter anyway. But if you are like some of us, raised with Depression-era conservative American values and because of that you keep your vehicles until well into the last chapter of Revelations then you go on ahead and change that oil like God intended for it to be changed. If God would have wanted you to change your oil at the factory recommended intervals He wouldn't have put so damn much of it in the Permian Basin, or given engineers the knowledge on how to make fake oil better than His...

Except the forum geniuses always forget the number one reason to do the first oil change has nothing to do with the service life of the oil, the intelligence of the engineering staff that designed the engine or keeping your warranty valid because you changed your oil too soon? (because you know the absolute worst thing you can do to an internal combustion engine is supply it with clean fresh oil)

There are those who understand what an engine break-in is and those that think it's some mystical transformation. An early oil change allows for inspection for typical vs abnormal quantity/size of the metal particles in the dissected filter element. Also the chance that excess metal shavings were in the machined recesses of the engine castings can be determined with some degree of certainty. It's largely a confirmation that things are going right in the break-in.

Modern auto mfgrs get it right most of the time, but shit happens. The best answer is if you want to change it early for peace of mind, your right to change it early - if you trust that auto workers never make a mistake or show up to work still drunk from the night before or just plain don't have a decent work ethic, blissfully wait 10,000 miles. You are probably right, aren't you?

Didn’t even bother reading your rant, but yes I’m right. I’m going to go with the people who designed and manufactured the engine and have tested it. Not going to go with the weekend warrior blinker fluid changers. Plenty of Toyota’s in the family and they have always followed factory specs and guess what, never an issue! I know...shocker. Over 200k on all vehicles and not one issue.

But like I said, if you’re smarter than them go ahead. Not my money, not my problem:thumbsup:

WHAT?? That was your stealer $$, not according to Toyota. I would demand a refund! 25K miles include 2 oil/filter changes plus every 5000k mile routine checkups, all free.

The manufacture scheduled maintenance is were they make their money on you. Free oil change is a way to suck you in.

Toyota specifies maximum intervals not minimums. If you do a bit of reading they will give you shorter intervals for certain operating conditions. My personally driving puts me at the 5000 mile oil change interval AS PER THE OPERATORS MANUAL.

Now does anyone have any information from Blackstone where they will warrantee your engine if you follow their intervals which are longer than what Toyota recommends? I have yet to see one. Now when we send our oil samples out at work we are trying to identify issues before they happen and to stretch out rebuilds so we aren’t doing a $15,000 rebuild on a gearbox X 16 sooner than nessecary. That being said we have to balance lost production and downtime with the cost of rebuilds. Compare that to a Tacoma. JoeCOVA doesn’t give a shit beyond his personal ownership of the truck at approximately 200,000 miles. That’s Joe’s own personal lifespan than he needs to exceed and be able to sell the truck at. So for Joe who cares because he knows he will exceed his needs with the maximum OCI. For him to do more is a waste of money. This changes as soon as you have an open ended ownership in terms of years owned. If you are keeping it “forever” or whatever that amount is in years / miles you need to make the thing last as best as you can. This is where I fit in. I might keep this for 5 years or forever and make it a dedicated wheeler. Don’t know. But I am doing my changes at 5000 miles / 8000km due to my cold start ups and short trips to work (8km). According to the owners manual this states I should be at these intervals.

When you look at OCI’s you need to look beyond just a number.. Your usage, your intended lifespan / ownership and the cost of the oil changes. Once you are out of warrantee do whatever your heart desires.
