It’s a slooooow build

Got almost all the panels cut and tacked together. It needs gussets and recovery points added and then I’ll burn it all in.

The school semester is almost done (thank god) and I’ll have some time off from work over the holidays. I’m hoping to make some more progress and be ready for the spring.

 

the front face angle on yours is what's gonna keep me from buying a bumper. looks so much better than a flat/vertical front. What thickness are you using?

I mocked up so many models in sketch up and then just went with one.

I've been a bit concerned about the dynamic between an angled face and a winch/fairlead. Seems like most bumpers have the fairlead totally flat / vertical...I wonder how that will affect any winching in the distant future.

 

I was curious about that, I found this $1500 3rd gen bumper with an angled winch plate. I'd say it shouldn't be a huge issue.

 

My demellonoffroad bumper has the angled down winch fairlead. Never saw any negative effect from it.

Why wouldn't you make your own winch mounting plate?

 

Its too thick to comftorably bend and with it being such a crucial load point, along with all the holes, etc. I just dont think its worth not spending the 40$. It gives you a great point to build off of as well

 

I'm currently working in a steel yard I have permission from owner to use his scrap the whole reason I want to make a front bumper to begin with is to put a winch on it. When u have the time if would post links and or pics of what you would recommend

Heres some pics of my build. The only thing you need to make sure of is that your winch and winch plate work together. I run a 12k traveller winch from tractor supply and their winch mounting plate.

Rack is painted and mounted some Ammo boxes for storage of small items

 

Do the latches clear easily or is it a pain to open and relatch?

 

They clear and open easily. I mounted them so that the latches face each other.

 

Like the ammo cans. How bout a closer look of how they are attached, please?

Made some tabs and drilled holes in them and welded them to the tube at the correct angle.
Drilled holes in the boxes and used a large washer to help stabilize.

 

Would a .50 can have filled the space better?
