I have brought it up before but this book and training method is really good especially if you want to train for endurance or manage weight effectively. Only caveat is you need to replace the ice climbing exercise routine with something more specific with your goals. For me it was golf and hiking so I added a lot of core work and hip/back stuff. Was not looking to get swoll just lean out and fit and it was working really good up until the ankle went. It is a program that works year round and ramps up in hours from 4-5 a week to 20+ depending on how deep you want to get into it. I find that the structure of it and setting a plan for each day was immensely helpful vs just going to the gym and doing circuit work aimlessly.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ILZ8S0K/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1

and equally important the training log
    https://www.amazon.com/New-Alpinism...6R37SWDM62R&psc=1&refRID=WT2HGZC9D6R37SWDM62R

Biggest downside is you have to read between the lines and develop your own targeted program. This tells you how and why to train this way(for endurance) but does not really give to much detail of what exercises and cardio to do. That is all up to the end user

No prob I ended up doing a ton of research on it and developing a plan so if you decide to go that way and have questions feel free to reach out. In 8 weeks I got to a point where everyone I knew commented on how much I trimmed down. Cant wait to get started on it again once I get clearance to go full weight bearing.

    truth!

have a plan and schedule you can stick to!

most importantly you HAVE to change the routine every 3-4 weeks minimum!

i rotate between a bunch of different plans and it pisses off my body so i know it works!

Yea I remember that.. or Atleast what i remember was it’s not necessarily changing what you do, it’s changing sets & reps? No? Yes?

Damn man we are the same height and weight. If you want to make it serious, get a piece of paper and write down a really basic plan of what you want to work out with this week in terms of the activity, time on the equipment, and then make three days this next week that you will do it when not at work or whatever. Its amazing when folks take the time to handwrite something in on a schedule at how much more committed they are cause they in essence signed the dotted line mentally for it.

I think if you can do that for the next few weeks, you might be surprised at how dedicated you could become to it.

I remember back in the day when the lady & I used to workout together. Those were the days. Lol
But yea I think that’s what I’ll do. Gonna order like a workout planner on Amazon & keep that on me, set alarms & what not. When I worked at a golf course I went from 230 to 195 just off that.. then i changed jobs & gained it all back lol

Lots of great advice thus far, so I will add something small that hopefully will be helpful.

I have been lifting daily since 2008, the wife since 2004. We've helped lots of people get started or get back into a workout routine. Our bite-sized advice is always this:

Start small! Don't make this a major inconvenience to your life at the outset. Don't dive in head first, demanding to yourself that you will be at the gym at 5 AM no matter what, and that you will lift for 4 hours straight no matter what. Keep expectations at a minimum until the groove has been established, which could take a while. Which is ok!

If it's too inconvenient at the beginning the excuse to drop it all is too powerful.

With that information I have a question, so I haven’t worked out in idk a year or 5? Lol so if I jump in & start with 3 sets of 10 is that fine for the muscles? As long as I stretch should I be fine? Not doing heavy weight, the rack we have only goes up to 30s lol

@devidstaco, the best work out experience I ever had was with an honest buddy that had similar goals. I felt whenever I worked out with my buddy, no matter what I just couldn't let that guy down. He was the motivator between shit happening vs not getting that final 10 percent out many times.

I do, but I do at my apartment complex. That said, I'm totally game rolling somewhere. I'm with the best people on earth here in north snottsville!

    Great question.

3 sets of 10 is totally fine to start, though I wouldn't make it the focus as you continue to grow. Body by Science by Doug McGuff is a great reference, especially when it comes to breaking through the old school, often inaccurate, 'rules' surrounding how to work out.

I no longer focus on sets and reps anymore. It's all the feel within the muscles themselves (and sometimes the joints/skeleton, depending on the exercise). This comes from experience though.

We have a membership at lifetime fitness near the Tempe autocomplex or whatever it’s called if you’re ever down. I believe we get like 12 guest passes.. however I haven’t paid... so... I’d have to do that lmao
Ah! Another question. So today I was hitting biceps. & my left bicep gave out when my right was still able to do another 3-5.. should I train it to catch up to my right? Or just continue to do the same reps?

& yea that sounds like some wise advice there lol I’ll just stick to the reps & sets for now

Ah yes, very very common in my experience, you must be a right handed fapping machine. Bwahaha!

I've had a lot of success by 1) understanding that this happens and 2) continuing to treat the two halves the same, with the same weight, and the same reps. In time the body will balance out. You might not get as killer of a workout in on the right arm, but the left will eventually catch up. And I would choose to avoid muscular imbalances side to side (which is bad news) rather than getting that right arm pumped up ASAP.
