I still think it was something loose that allowed the arm to swing thus adding huge forces that the diff couldn't handle.
No way everything was tight and the diff exploded and not just the CV.

I love working on constructions trucks that have been sunk to the frame in mud and now for some reason have electrical issues.

I have tried to use them in the freezing cold. I see this as a temporary solution. It isn’t something to throw money at. I have a winch, traction boards, hi lift jack, etc. I just have a few spare ratcheting straps that are used for recovery. I consider them throw always due to their cheap, inexpensive usefulness. It’s totally cool if you want to have the emergency tire block thingy as another tool in your chest. I’ve just found the usefulness of a ratcheting strap to accomplish the same as the link you gave. The upside is the ratcheting strap can function for other things as well. I’m not pissin in yer Cheerios man. Just trying to offer up some alternatives that can be just as useful.

As an aside, the last time I had to employ this trick, it was on an older dodge 2wd stuck in the snow near slick rock. We used all 6 of my ratcheting straps on his rear tires. At that time, I didn’t have my winch, traction boards or hilift as I was in the Wife’s SUV and we were renting a cabin to just play in the snow. Dude popped out of the woods onto the highway as we were headed home. Had him out in a jiffy. But, he got to keep the ratcheting straps and I think he had to cut 2 of them off anyways.

 

You tried using the ones in the video, or a regular ratchet strap?

If I'm picturing this correctly, you're using the ratchet handle mechanism as the block. Seems like it would be seriously susceptible to damage, and possibly be very difficult to remove, if damaged, unless you cut the strap. I have all the recovery gear you mentioned, and then some, but thought these looked like a very simple, and quick method. The last time I got stuck we used 6 treds, allowing me to move a couple feet, then recovering the treds and reposition them for another couple feet. And so on, and so on, for 100 yards. In reverse. Looked like something that might be effective. No worries.

I vote for Ridgegrapplers. I have them on right now and best tire I have had so far when it comes to over all use on road and off road. I have had K02, MTR's in the past and woudn't get KO2 ever again(they were impossible to balance after little wear) and MTR were good at first, but loud as fuck once the tread is running low but great tire off road.
