I did mine at our campground in Pismo back in November...well actually I had the snorkel installed but not the tubing inside the fender. The previous owner took the stock air tube inside the fender off so I never had that piece, had to grab one from another TW member that we camped with up in Pismo.

Where the snorkel connects to the rubber tubing inside the fender can be a tight fit, I sprayed some WD40 on it and it made it 100x easier.

I made a gasket to fit in between the snorkel and the fender and the spray is a adhesive to stick it to the snorkel

Got it all installed today! Thanks everyone for your help! Getting the plumbing all worked up was a PITA, when the hose is smaller than the the pieces it’s supposed to go over :annoyed: I tried to do the snorkel test and seem to have an air exchange where I liberally applied the rtv. Will probably go back later and address that.

Couldn't get to it today but I've decided to go back and try wrapping with fusion tape on both snorkel to air tube and air tube to stock intake tube. Going to see if that seals it up better. Will share results once done. Don't think those clamps are doing the job 100%.

Yea I knew going into this that the worm clamps weren't going to suffice because you can't really crank them down. I found two V-Band clamps locally here at a diesel shop, and used those instead of the worm clamps. The only place I am getting air exchange is where the two factory intake pieces "mate"

ahhhh so that is where its at for you and most likely the rest of us. how to seal that now... going to need to go look at that again.

EDIT: I really don't want to take that damn air tube and rubber hose out to replace those clamps but yeah, those worm clamps suck balls... lol

you dont actually have to take the rubber hose off to replace the clamps, with the worm clamps just loosen them all the way and youll be able to separate them, and with the v-band clamps you can take the nylock nut off and open it up, then assemble it back onto the hose.

I was considering running a bead of silicone around the hole cut into the fender. Just to keep the water out of the fender and maybe help hold things in place better.

true, I was thinking it would make trying to wrap those points easier with the fusion tape. then again, perhaps the v-band clamps will be enough. thx for the input.

    Definitely!

The v-bands are definitely enough, you can actually crank them down pretty tight where as the worm clamps will slip if you try to tighten them down too tight

I’ve got some V band clamps somewhere in my VDub “box o’ leftovers” from going to a front mount intercooler. Can’t remember off hand what size they are though. Thinking 2.5” and maybe some 3”.

Huh this has me wondering if I should test the air seals on mine...haven't really done it except for shining a bright flashlight through it in the dark to see if any light was escaping lol. There wasn't any but at WOT I have even more pressure with the supercharger so it would be nice to know it's sealed 100%

Take the snorkel head off and use your hand to cover the snorkel, it should suck up pretty well, there was a video posten on here a few pages back that showed one that was really sealed,
