Ok, so I’m fully aware of the ongoing threads with the Right Bed Cover for the best watertight, security, price point, low profile,Installation etc etc.

I know I would be fully satisfied with a retractable but for well over $1300 for the one I want I’m back to the 3 fold Tonneau which are perfectly fine. I had the 2017 OEM but kinda bulky/heavy and had leaks n still was like 1000 at the dealership.

My issue is I’ve researched many, Mx4,extang,Lund,Peragon,trident,switchblade, and so on. Which are still at the 900 plus range. Maybe I’ll just get a diamond back and blow all the cash but see that they have some of the same pros n cons but more pricey which I’m not cool with.

I’m trying to get the best security, low profile, decent price range cover and keeping it kinda dry if not Dry is a plus and not losing too much of my short bed square footage while having a bed cover type cover. Lol

Annnd Go! Pics and advice are priceless, please.

I ended up getting the Bakflip Mx4 for my bed.
Happen to have a nephew that works for a custom shop who hooked me up with their discount so was a great deal as well!

I lose very lil bed space with it so that’s a plus, bone dry I doubt but did go thru a heavy rain storm and bed was about 98% dry, all n all I’m very happy with it.

One thing I’ll advise on is the drain tubes that’ll need to be drilled in the bed “MAKE SURE YOUR AWARE THAT UR GAS REFILL LINE IS DIRECTLY UNDER IT!”
So use caution or don’t drill at all, ya don’t really need the tubes imo any way.

    Peace out!

I have an Undercover Flex. It is very similar to the Bak Mx4. Biggest difference is that the Undercover actually covers the utility rail rendering it useless other than holding the cover. It did not bother me as my 1st gen did not have the rails, so I lost the use of something I never had previously. I added D rings to each bolt so I still have plenty of tie down spots.

I routed my drains out through the front of the bed rather than straight down through the wheel well. I left the drain hose a few inches long so it does 2 gentle 90* one out the front wall then another turning the hose toward the ground. No threat to the fuel lines, hoses drip inside (not on) the frame rails per the position I put them.

Love the cover, it is secure, mostly water tight, lost maybe 4" of bed length with it on. I got it mostly because it was a little less cost that the Mx4 at the time.

Removal takes a minute of less. Open cover, do not use prop rods, loosen 2 knobs under the rail near the cab, slide the clamps in (toward the center of the bed) and pick up cover and put it wherever for short term storage. reverse the steps to put it back on. I understand the Bak brand removes and attaches in almost the exact same way.

Yup bak flip works the same way, I checked those out as well but couldn’t get the discount on them so obvious choice was the mx4 for me. I’ll probably do the same to my drain tubes,, so thx for the Tip sir:cheers:.

I ended up going with the Undercover UltraFlex myself. Very tight fit and seals very well. I needed a cover that would protect stuff in my bed if the tailgate is locked. I am definitely pleased with it. It is a hard trifold but it also has supports to fold it up and use the whole bed without having to remove it. Even if you had to remove it, it’s fairly easy.

Yes they do! A lot alike! My buddy owns an accessory shop also and was able to help me out with a discount too. I was looking at cheaper covers and I decided to spend the extra cash and get one that would last a long time and well built.

I checked out the install of both the Undercover Flex and the BakFlip. They both seem not non-destructive installs (except for hole enlargements for drain tubes) which is what I'm interested in, in case I decide to go a different route someday. The big difference I can see that I would care about, is one retains the rails for mounts and the other doesn't. Anything I've missed?

@Waterboij23 When you said "I needed a cover that would protect stuff in my bed if the tailgate is locked.", all the covers discussed here do that right (Lomax, BakFlip, Undercover)? I thought all of them require you to drop the tailgate in order to open/fold the cover.

Yes, I think you are correct. The only noticeable difference between Undercover and Bak are the rail mounts, with undercover using/covering the entire rail.

The UC Flex, BAK MX4 are both fiber reinforced panels on an aluminium frame. I think they will equally and effectively protect cargo if the tailgate is locked and cover is closed "properly" (meaning not tied shut over odd cargo etc.) I have seen Lomax, but not directly so I can not say more than they look to be at least as solid as the other two.

    I agree @TC_Mic.

Yes, almost all covers need to have the tailgate opened to open the cover. I also know the ultra flex doesn’t require to be opened to close the tailgate. Some of the other covers require you to close the tailgate first before closing the cover. It’s not a big deal but I didn’t want to open and close the cover every time I needed to get in my tailgate. I can’t comment on the covers if they function that way. It was something I wanted though.

My flex claims that you need to close it after closing the tailgate. I do regularly close the cover first and have not noticed any problems.

The difference seems to be the Ultra has a seal on the bottom of the lid at the tailgate while the flex does not. Both covers have a flap or "lip" of rubber that extends back, maybe an inch, from the back panel over the tailgate.

On my mx4 the tailgate closes with cover down or up but it suggest you close tailgate first, also if they wanna get the cover off they could with a small crow bar but then again if someone really wants in they’ll find a way- jus keep the shotgun handy and make sure ya tell em you were scared for ur life!:ohsnap:

If you want major security then go diamond back but that’s overkill for what I need plus the price is way more.

The lomax is solid aluminum panel with reinforcing frame under each panel. Each panel locks into side channels as its folded closed. It's designed so that you close the cover first and then close the tailgate. Not a diamond back level of security but definitely a tight and secure fit. An it's low profile flush look is sick!
