    Dude...

'96 maroon accord LX. Best stick to learn on. Biggest regret ever losing her.

    Her name was Maria.

Find a manual 3rd gen to learn on, the clutch is so forgiving.

Honestly I don’t think it’s any less convenient to drive a MT.....people usually go on about stop and go traffic, but for me it’s more about left vs right foot. If I were to go into an AT now and sit in traffic, my right foot would be killing me. It’s well worth the switch to the left foot to then have incredible driving engagement the rest of the time you’re in the truck.

    I think you’d be surprised

I love my manual so much, I do the "air clutch" every time I drive an auto. Keeps my leg loose and ready!

Let me preface this by saying I would never drive an automatic unless I was disabled and had not choice. So yes by default I have no regrets buying the manual and I enjoy driving this truck immensely. At the same time, you really have to work to drive/shift this thing smoothly. There is lots of driveline slop not to mention notchy engagements. I found you really have to time your shifts, clutch engagement/dis-engagement just right or it can get rough. Nothing like any vehicle I have owned in the past. I average 20 mpg consistently.

Have you done the accumulator delete on yours? If not I would highly recommend it,it makes a world of difference and the clutch operates like it should.

I have the opposite problem.....I have to tuck my left foot back or else I'll accidentally smack the brake looking for a clutch that isn't there

I've been meaning to ask this for a while. I can deal/control bucking and shaking, but for some reason I can never get a clunking sound under control when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Well I can, but let's say that 3 out of 10 shifts from 1st to 2nd, the clutch or tranny makes this dreary clunking sound. Sometimes from 2nd to 3rd as well, but much less common. It sounds like I'm gonna break something and I'm constantly monitoring my shifts to prevent this, but sometimes it happens no matter how careful I am.

Is this normal? I dont want to damage my tranny. I bought a Toyota because they're supposed to last, but this sounds makes me feel like I'm hurting my tranny every time I drive it.

Also, I do tend to shift around 2-2.5K. I've read that this engine likes high revs, should I shift at over 3K?

I LOVE MY MANUAL TACO! When Im doing errands or driving to hang out with friends, my mpg is around 13. On the highway, I get 18-22. Not the most fuel efficient vehicle but i dont care, it’s a pickup. Not if you will excuse me, I got some mexican tacos to eat.

I second this, ditching the accumulator is hands down the best mod for the M/T (besides perhaps OVtune).

I don't get the clunk/clang/buck at all now. It's not a chore to be smooth, just muscle memory like it should be.

There's also a bit of a break in period. If you've only got 2k on your truck, don't sweat it.

As for the shifts needing to be a good blend of clutch vs gas.... Yes that is how manuals work. Not sure what the complaint is here.

I recommend you get the trailer lined up to the slot and just straight line back in 4WD Lo. Or try get the clutch engaged fully and do your best to control speed with your brakes. And for MPGs I recommend you do not drive faster than 65mph maybe 70mph. Your larger tires put more load on the engine and if you speed you will off course get bad MPGs.

I don't regret getting the manual. Would choose manual if I had to buy again. My complaints are the same as the ones mentioned already. 2nd gear too tall. I sometimes have to shift back down to 1st in some situations. Clutch easily burns. I've never burned it unless on really steep hills, stop and go traffic on San Francisco hills will do it. Reverse gear that I think everyone can all agree is crazy tall. The clunking/clanking noise when going over bumps in neutral.

My second gen Tacoma has a huge shudder to the clutch. I think I might have Shaken Taco Syndrome! Does any of the third gen owners have a violent shudder in the clutch?

Like consistently? No. Like when humidity, temperatures and pressure density are perfectly aligned? The odd time.

    Edit...oh, and it's not violent
