Got rear ended by a younger not paying attention. His 2011 Civic is totaled his engine was pushed back into the firewall. The Tacoma took the impact very well it’s actually hard to tell it was damaged because the hitch took 95% of the impact. PDC sensor alert came on and the rear bumper was turned downwards slightly. I’m a little bummed they aren’t going to be using OEM and the estimate seems high but his insurance is covering the bill anyway..

You should have every right to have OEM parts. Plus, you need to file separate claim for depreciation on your Taco.

Not exactly sure what they are doing, I don’t think the frame was tweaked. I’m going to follow up with the body shop manager tomorrow.

OEM parts were supposed to be on there I told that to the claims rep before the adjuster got there. I already started a separate claim for depreciation on the truck because the car fax will now show an acccident on the truck.

You absolutely do have the right to request and expect OEM replacement parts just be forewarned that many time it takes much longer to get those parts but that is your call as for the frame they must feel that it did not take much damage due to so little frame labor time.

Don’t put on an OEM bumper, because Mobtown rear bumpers are OEM too-

Just curious ... who was the other person's insurance company ?

You have basically have a new truck and that should push them to give you OEM parts.

Since it was the other person's fault ... I would insist on OEM parts.

...^^^... They should be reasonable. That's a decent insurance company.

They are alway bragging on their commercials about not losing money on depreciation on a totaled newer vehicle.

It looks like the crumple zone on the frame got activated, its what it's designed to do, absorb the impact, save you and the rest of the frame. Easy stretch job, it'll be good as new.
I wouldn't worry about the non OEM terminology, they'll most likely use OEM, but they need to give you back the truck ASAP as the rental charges can add up quickly

    Glad you're ok
    Cheers!

Can you do that? Just tell the body shop to order an aftermarket bumper instead? I've done it when using my own insurance with a comp claim, but never the other party's.

He can ask for a check from the insurance company and then take it wherever he likes for it to be repaired. If you buy an aftermarket bumper you can have them install it or just fix the truck minus the bumper, then install it yourself.

Not sure how insurance will work. I know when I've had to go through that process, I got quotes from multiple places. Find a place that will quote all OEM. Your dealership have a collision center? Cash in on the highest on and then take it wherever you please. If there is a difference after you can file for an adjustment.

I’m a body shop manager in Alabama, not sure where you are but the Toyota dealership here price matches non oe parts 90% of the time. If you can’t get the estimate changed ask if they can at least get the parts price matched. As far as the frame goes it must not be too bad considering the repair time on the estimate, you can also request the frame measurement print outs after the repair is completed
