Expected temps in the Chicagoland area are currently -7 with -22 degree F windchills. Tomorrow AM the high is -20 and -50 windchills. Which got me thinking about what everyone's cold weather plan of attack is for prepping their vehicles to prepare for the heat wave.

Part of me wishes I was traveling there just to see how that cold really is. I’ve only been just barely under 0 a couple times in my life.

I was just outside a little bit ago, its not so much the cold, but the wind that smacks you in the face as you try to breathe and grasp for air. Not gonna lie, its rough.

Worst I ever experienced was back around 1993 or 1994, it was -23 ambient with like -50 windchill, never want to experience that again!

I parked my truck up against the house with the grille facing the siding, figured it would cut down on the wind blowing into the radiator.

The truck needs no prep and will be fine, -20 isn’t cold enough to cause any problems. Easiest thing you can do is have a trickle charger plugged in on the battery to keep it both warm and topped off which will make the start much easier.

I'm mainly just asking out of curiosity. Our cars sleep in a heated garage--currently 48 degrees in there...

I take it back, the garage is the easiest solution.

I feel for you guys with these frigid temps you're experiencing , stay safe and limit outside activities !!!

I always worry about my Camaro in the winter time temps here in the high Desert . Last month I was seeing 20° night time temps and even in a heated insulated garage it was 38°-40°

Being that is a drag race car there's only water in the cooling system and always worried about the block cracking . I would remove the hood and place old comforters ontop of the engine

Now I've got a wireless outdoor temp gauge sensor in my garage so I can monitor temps

I didn't do anything to the truck. I am running the furnace blower on the on position instead of auto to keep the house as evenly warm as possible. It is -11 now at 1:30am and dropping a couple degrees per hour.

Fan on or is your furnace running? I've dialed our home down to 66 and keeping it there, we usually have it at 69 or 70 during the day. I told my wife to just bundle up cause i'd rather have 'some' heat than to have our furnace go out and have no heat

The blower on the furnace is running even when the flame is not always lit. It is only 42 in the garage right now but the truck is outside. I have a jetski in the garage that has not been winterized so it can't freeze.

Mine is garaged during the night but it’ll be outside during the day at work. Not doing anything to prep except bring a couple blankets. Looking forward to tomorrow! I’ll make the cold my bitch.
