SoCal and Miami are praying for you guys! I truly feel for the homeless and folks without shelter. This is life or death!

Absolutely, have to be safe out there. Fortunately most of us here have new(ish) cars and really don't have to worry about making it home to our families safely, but even at 5-10 minutes at currently temps are potentially life threatening

Our police stations are opening up as emergency shelters. At least here they are not freezing. I haven't seen a single one in our emergency room tonight. It's -27 right now. Wind chill is in the -50s.

God Bless you guys and what you do...let me know if I can contribute in any way from Los Angeles...its unfortunate, but this is not going to be considered a natural disaster/FEMA type of event. Which means after it is all said and done, it'll be business as usual, minus a few folks.

    Thanks.

Honestly, I've only got a few folks in the department who thought their pinkeye or whatever was worth going out in this. Only one today for cold related stuff. Our guys on the street are doing a good job. But, aside from car wrecks the cold hasn't taken anyone yet in my area.

I am just glad I work in a field that is open during all this and that I was scheduled to be here tonight.

On another note... I am probably going to be picking up one of your remote starters on Friday when I get paid. This going outside to start the rig BS is for the birds.

Not much, park in the ramp at work (+20F) Maybe put a trickle charger on it at home. Meanwhile the Chrysler owners are running outside and starting them in the middle of the shift:devil: Talking about windchill I had -22F on the way home Sat. morning with a 70MPH wind -67F, truck did fine.

If your not acclimated you will not have fun!

How is turning down the heat 3 degrees and making your wife freeze saving your furnace?

Because furnaces are designed to maintain 70 degrees at 0 degrees, obviously some are different than others, but general rule is such. So by reducing temps a few degrees, you are creating less stress on the furnace thereby allowing it to not work as hard. I'd rather her wear a sweatshirt for 48 hours, than have to pack up my house and worry about pipes freezing if the furnace goes south. Just my $0.02.

Edit: Also, I don't think 66 degree home is by any means, "freezing".

    Is in my house.
I heat the house to 70+, boil water on the stove and vent the dryer inside, make it comfortable. HAPPY WIFE!
