Good morning. -29 windchill -57. Warms up to -17 today.

    Screenshot_20190130-051905.jpg

Weather channel says -39 tonight don't really trust them though going with the local folks at -31.

On the national nightly news last night they had a reporter in Minneapolis and she had a pair of honking huge yellow goggles on. Said that at -50 windchill and below your eyeballs will freeze in their sockets. Wonder if she felt silly when she looked around and no one else was wearing goggles o_O

Dog found his Kong Frisbee in the snow so we played Frisbee this morning until he ran enough that he took his morning shit. Did put on a hat and zipped up the coat but probably should have put gloves on. Next trip out will.

Everyone stay warm and safe. Another cup of coffee.

I'm thinking the minus temps like you guys have are similar to the 115 and up temps here. It's already hot, but it's a higher number that represents how much faster your feet catch on fire except now your feet are turning into huge blocks of ice in a shorter distance....that's fk'n cold, I don't care who you are.

    Moron report.
Guy fails for sticker for wiper blades.
    Refuse blades.
So he is going to drive 20 miles home.
Find a set of used blades and come back.
Then I have to get pulled off a job to check it out and write a sticker if the blades are good.

So all that driving, fuel, time...

Then he complained he's going to be late for work.

    :annoyed:

Man, I see Fargo ND is at -33 this morning!! I can't even imagine that, I was cold here this morning at +49... I can just walk in the house to get relief.. With temps like these you guys can't even say "screw this weather, I'll just jump on a plane to the islands!!" and get relief, the planes are grounded!!

    Shit!!

Ridiculous cold in Louisville (for this far south....) 9 degrees and DROPPING now with a wind chill of -17 at the moment. We had 1" of powder snow during the night. Louisvillians are notorious for going into panic mode when it snows. Seeing how the rep was gained on my way into work. Highways were a mess, even at 4:30AM. Best bet was to slow down and drive like you have some sense. That's just not possible for some people. As I was getting on I 65, some jackass in a new Ford F250 4wd came flying by me, horn blowing. He was doing about 70. The rest of us were doing MAYBE 45. Right after he passed, him and ANOTHER idiot, also in a fairly new F250 4wd decided to bounce off each other, then plow into a concrete center divider. I returned the favor by blowing MY horn as I passed them. The truck that had passed me ended up backwards in traffic, wrecked so bad the right rear wheel was about a foot off the ground with the truck on flat ground. It was no doubt totaled. Morons in their first 4wds are ALWAYS the first people you see wrecked in snow and ice. They believe themselves to be 10 feet tall and bullet proof. Not so much.....

Anyway. Made it here safe and sound. Building is warm, so I did my job! Now we have a staff meeting at 10AM that I doubt anyone else will show up. Oh how I long for the day when I can stay home and sit by the fire when it's this freekin' cold.

BTW....Never spun a tire. Never slid trying to stop. No problems whatsoever. Didn't have the topper on the Tacoma last year at this time. The extra weight does wonders on snow!

Worked with a Project Manager yesterday morning that is in Scottsdale she is my age and moved there from here a couple of years ago. A lot of people from here do that or to Jax once they get ~60.

She said summers there aren't much different than winter here. And remote start is used to cool the vehicle instead of warm it. But you don't have to shovel and scrape heat. Have heard all that before plus being in Florida enough times in the summer get up early before the heat to do things, stay out of the sun, move slow, etc. it all does work. What really caught my attention though was she said she didn't realize how much the cold made her joints hurt until she moved. Frack, that really has my attention right now. It hurts to type.

Not sure there is any real feel difference between here and there Dan. Be safe! No mail here today either. Schools closed, most everything closed. They are still trying to clear a foot of snow from 2 days ago. Medical of course has to stay open no matter what. But the city buses won't start and most people have to take them to get downtown there isn't enough parking and it is almost all reserved for patients and their family. First email went out this morning was emergency staffing action plan is in effect. No one is to be punished for not showing up for work or being late. I really do have it good and work at a good place. I'm lucky, and blessed. Worked a lot of vertical markets when I first retired from the Navy and while sometimes miss manufacturing, other times not so much.

Saw a lot of that when I lived in Asheville especially on I-40 coming up Black Mountain. Once they hit the ice and snow on top of the mountain those 4x4's would be spun out all over. The Ex used to ask me why I didn't stop to help them. Unless they looked like they had a physical injury I never did, told her taking them out of the gene pool. They weren't always young kids that didn't know better more times than not middle aged guys. That really pissed me off.

Besides having a heavy fiberglass topper I tie down 2 bags of sand to prevent them from being missile hazards. They add more weight and can use them for traction in the event get stuck or someone else does. Pickups are the worse vehicle to have in snow and ice don't care if they have 4x4 or not. This is most likely my last truck.

We have the same dumb ass drivers here.
Last night coming home from work I took back road instead of main highway just to avoid people like this. 30 mph, took a few minutes longer, but I got home.
