1st gen plus 2nd gen equals 3rd gen. 3rd gen divided by 3rd gen equals 1st gen. Math checks out.

When I was a kid my neighbor had that exact truck. It had he two tone check graphic on the side, and I think it came with the silver steal wheels. My neighbor had like a six inch lift, huge tires, a cap and various lights, and other cool things on the truck.

Your right, 86 was the first year of IFS, 85 was the good year.

Been awhile since I looked at toyota solid axles, but I remember there was one year that had a beefier front axle than the rest.

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
I had an 84 and later an 88. I loved the 84! One of my all time favorite vehicles.

85 was the only year with both EFI and a solid front axle.

I'd rather have an 81, they look better. Contrary to popular belief these 20R and 22R motors don't last much longer than 150k anyways.

I liked the body that had the round headlights. There is a guy around me that has a 4 door diesel from australia. sweet truck.

Yeah, the timing chains are a bit weak. Got to stay on top of any chain slap you hear. They will eat right through the timing cover into the coolant passage and kill these motors quick! Other than that, they would last a long time.

Correct. I was called the Pick Up and Tacoma’s didn’t come out until 1995.5 model year if I remember correctly. But either way it was the truck of the time until the T-100 etc. So it basically was the Tacoma just under a different name.

Is that what kills them? I just figured it was oil consumption due to how many of these high-mileage old pickups are listed saying "burns oil"

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, SOS rear bumper, SOS skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
The ad states: mileage believed to be 31,500. Its a 34 year old truck. I wonder if the odometers on the older Toyotas only went to 100k and started over at 0. It does look good in the photos, but photos can be deceiving.

The chain guides would fail and the chain then would slap the inside of the timing cover. Right where it makes contact there is a coolant passage on the other side. So, ppl would hear the chain slap but not address it right away. Shortly after, you have a nice milkshake! Of couse, this is just one way they could die....lol
