Long time lurker of this board that finally decide to make an account. Currently own a '09 TRD Sport 2wd that I bought new and still love, but I'm looking to upgrade to a TRD off road with 4wd because I'm moving from FL to CO.

Definitely appreciate all the helpful advice and ideas from this forum, and looking forward to spending way too much money on Mods :woot:

One question I have is: for those of you that have recently sold a Tacoma, do you have any advice for selling one? Did you trade it in for a new one, sell to a private buyer, sell to carmax, etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome! I owned a car dealership for over 10 years and I can tell you the last thing you would want to do is sell it to Carmax, or any dealer. You are only going to be offered a wholesale amount (or less). The same goes for trading it in, you won't get much. With the incredibly strong resale value of the Tacoma, the smartest thing to do is sell it yourself. Do a lot of research before buying a 3rd Gen, there are reliability issues with the new engine and transmission. After months of research, I found the 2012 to 2015 was best for me, with the 2015 being the most desirable. I bought a 2015 TRD Sport DC a couple weeks ago. This is my first Tacoma and I am very impressed.

Thanks for the advice! Any input on best ways to sell directly to a consumer?

As stated above, Auto Trader works well. Here in Utah ksl.com (KSL 5 News website) works just as good, sometimes better and it's free. Maybe there is something like this where you live.
The true value of any automobile is the market value, not the book value. Look at what other Tacomas with similar miles and condition are selling for, this is the true market value. Put a lot of pictures in the ad, including some of dings/scratches, to convey you are being honest about the trucks condition. Prior to listing it for sale, detail it, fix blemishes, basically make it look good. Don't get in a hurry or seem desperate to sell it. You don't need to be, it's a Tacoma!

I was originally of the 12-15 model mindset for many of the reasons stated by Gerard6778, but I decided to go with the 19. It's three years into the current generation, so I would expect many of the initial bugs to be worked out. What did it for me, however, were the Toyota Sense safety features, particularly given the precious cargo it carries- my family. Way more money, absolutely, but if it's the last new vehicle I ever buy, which being 54 and buying a Toyota might be the case, it will have been a pretty good deal.

I definitely agree. I love my second gen, but the new safety features (especially BSM and Adaptive Cruise Control) are pretty appealing. Did you come from a previous gen tacoma? Do you like this one as much so far?

I came from a 6th generation Toyota Pickup, before they gave it the fancy Tacoma name. Yes, I like it. But make no mistake, it still drives and rides like a truck, which is the manufacturers intent. The fact that the damn thing will stop itself with the Adaptive Cruise Control if you one has one's head up one's ass is a plus, and you can easily set three different distances between you and the car in front of you. I have both the BSM and the cross-traffic alert. Rear seats have the room of airline seats, but you'll find that on any generation. And like I said, if your one to buy and own forever, then it's a good deal.
