Tundra coming out with new stuff in 2020, just saying. Doubt Tacoma will do anything new besides the grille.

Honestly, the only reason why I have interest in the Ranger is because of what it has done overseas. For it to go toe-to-toe with a Hilux and even outshine it over there with a different engine and drivetrain speaks volumes.

I'll come back with a full report after I test drive it in 2 weeks when it comes to the Central Florida Auto show. So far I like what I see. My only gripe is the 18 gallon fuel tank.

I'll probably never own a full-size again, so overgrown mid sizers it is for me. My interest in the ranger is solely based on the idea that competition improves the breed. My next truck could very well be a ranger, eventually, but it could also be the Jeep, or another taco. If GM fixes their crappy 1998 lighting and plastics, then maybe a twin. I did enjoy my limited time in it.

You knows? The more the merrier.

Have a source on the Tundra changes?
I'd love to be able to post some inside scoop, but I have to wait for press releases/official sources.

Hybrid implies a gas engine in addition to electric motors. Also, Solar panels.

All I know is that if Toyota doesn’t offer a diesel variant on at least the Tundra refresh then they will further fall behind to the big boys.

From some insiders, tundra may be using the 3.5L V6 TT for improved fuel economy, but 5.7l V8 will still be provided. There is a V8 TT yet to be released but unconfirmed if it will power the tundra (for LCF and possibly Landcrusier) Discussions on Hybrid Tundra were there... but it sounds like it might be a FCV tundra if government assistance comes into play.

"BOF will be entirely new" - dont know how much true that is.

Idk.. I just hope they offer a eLocker on the tundra already.

Just reading this thread and saw the Jeep on fire picture, I saw the same thing this morning here in Kamloops on the highway. Newer Jeep front end on fire, no other vehicles involved. It was nuked. Jeep might want to figure that stuff out.

Lets hope Toyota doesn't decide to try to improve fuel economy through a new drivetrain like the Tacoma's and pray they do it through alternative engine configs.

Whatever speed trans they decide on, it'll just shift to the highest gear as soon as it can anyway, just like the ones now do. My friend has a new F-150 with the 10 speed auto trans. we were doing 30 MPH on a town's main street and the truck was already in 7th gear and only turning 1100 RPM. Difference though, I gotta say, the downshifts and upshifts were completely smooth and not jarring like in the Tacoma. As a passenger, I wasn't even aware of the shifting.

Good god no. That butt-ugly Hilux can stay in Australia where they loathe it and wish they had Tacomas.

"Toyota will offer a power-operated driver’s seat, and according to a video posted on its official Facebook page, it’s not too far-fetched to speculate the Tacoma will receive additional technology features. Tech moves fast, and the truck received its last major update in 2016."

I like that. Maybe Android Auto? Apple CarPlay?
