Just wondering for those of you that have installed the "TRD Cold Air Intake (CAI) in a 2016-2018 Tacoma, the reason I am asking is that is the only one that won't void the factory warranty. I installed a beautiful Volant CAI w/scoop on my 2012 Tacoma only for Toyota to refuse to fix my Air injection pump and secondary switching valves because of the Volant system. I am trying to upgrade but not give Toyota a reason to decline any warranty work. I would appreciate any feedback on the TRD CAI.

It's not that big of a difference in power, and looks how much trouble a CAI has already caused you.

Why spend 400 dollars on another CAI?

Save your money, come to Pa. Everyone has a cold air intake for the next few days!

I’m not a fan of CIA intakes. Its been proven lots of times theres very little benefit if any, plus the cost. Imo it’s all a placebo effect.

Stock set up flows plenty of air.

Mod away OP! You wont gain much on that motor with a CAI but it will sound cool and look good everytime you pop the hood.

There's a reason Toyota claims theirs add hp but they won't actually show you the data. My guess is that their data does show an increase in performance, but it's so small that it doesn't matter. The orginal intake pulls air from exactly the same place, so I guess that's a "cold" air intake as well - or a hot air intake in the summer. And then you might look up the threads about the efficacy of cloth vs. paper filters and then decide which direction you want to go.

The Volant system I installed on my 2012 Tacoma worked great and I noticed a big difference in pulling my Bass Boat, but I want to put in the TRD and just wanted people that had it and what they thought about it. Most work way better then factory.

The only reason for the TRD is warranty (I don't want to give them a reason to not fix anything if it happens), I don't drive a whole lot so the 3yrs will kick in before the 36,000 miles.

It’s like when the people saying it’s a waste of money, and that same dude has $600 rock sliders on their mall crawler. Lol. Or $800 wheels cuz it “looks” cool and has zero function. Everyone does the same shit.. they like it. Everyone is different. Who cares. Get what you want. It’s your life, your money.. not theirs. I have a trd Intake on my 2nd gen and absolutely love it. I noticed a hp and response gain, it sounds badass and yes it absolutely looks cool when u pop the hood.

Exactly. Performance parts compliment each other and if tuned they really can show gains. Add that CAI to a Tacoma with headers, cat delete, exhaust and I bet it does gain some power. Especially in boosted applications.

I install intakes and exhausts on everything. Just the sound is worth it to me. I hate not being able to feel where the motor is at on these new cars that are so quiet.

ehhh its kind of been debunked that bolt ons do very little if anything at all when slapped on n/a motors. you would gain more power switching from unleaded to premium fuel

The one guy on here did a dyno test on a 3rd Gen using a stock filter and then no filter at all and there was no gain, that proves the stock filter flows more than enough air.

It's been proven in many motors yea but not all. Chevy LS motors can make gobs of extra power with just bolt ons. And if you count a cam as a bolt in you can make 70 to 100hp on a $400 cam.

My ls motor puts down 360 at most stock. Intake, manifold, headers, exhaust bring it over 400whp to the wheels.

You can easily make 1200hp on a junkyard LS1 !!!

Yes!! 5.3l truck motor with 300 shot nitrous is a fun cheap way to make power! Not 1200 but still fun. Lol.
