Yeah, my laziness saved my life that day. I wanted to wear goggles and not a helmet that day. I was to lazy to look for my goggles so I just threw my helmet on. I probably would have cracked my head open even if it was a kia.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

Have you seen anyone's face/head after a wreck without a full face helmet? It's not pretty.

I have several 3/4 helmets- mostly vintage, my favorite in particular is Dept. of the Navy issued (used on a carrier) that a buddy painted metal flake red. The only newer one I have is from Fulmer (site a little too "Spaceballs" for me) that I had pinstriped by a guy at the Mooneyes show. Considered getting a Biltwell 3/4 but might get the Gringo. Just transitioned to full face (Biltwell Lansplitter) because I was tired of getting hit in the face with pebbles. The shield already has a few bug splatters on it so it saved me from that too.

Serious question: do you think it makes that much of a difference? If the crash is bad enough, no helmet is going to save you, right?

True, but look at post crash pictures where people went for a high speed slide and survived. All those scrapes and gouges on the lower portions of the helmets would've been ripping skin and bones apart otherwise.

It absolutely will and does, but of course not everything is 100%. Sometimes you die in car crash so why bother wearing a seat belt right?

You're right: if it's bad enough, no helmet will save you.
On the other hand, if it's not "bad enough", getting your face cheese-grated on the freeway might not be that fun and a full helmet will keep your teeth in place. I lost skin on my arm, knees and hip from a spill on the freeway that could have very well been missing from my face if I wasn't so lucky. I crashed while wearing my 3/4 helmet at 60 mph, instinct kicked in from my training to always tuck my chin in a fall. After the accident the brow on my helmet was scratched to shit. Had I not tucked, that impact would have been on my face.

As much as I like riding with no face shield, the pros outweigh the cons for me.

I will still take the 3/4 if I'm just putting around town, but for anything at higher speeds or a longer commute, I'll wear the full face.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Yes it does. Something like 20% of impacts occur on the chin/cheek area. A minor crash with a full face helmet could be the difference between no injury and a broken jaw/missing teeth. You're assuming death from a flaming head-on collision. That's statistically way less likely than a minor slip and tip on sand or a car door opening in front of you.

EDIT: changed to 20% after reading article linked below.

Thats why ATGATT is a strong statement. Also dress for the crash, not the ride. But in the end, its up to you

Would not have walked away from this one like I did, the scrapes continued across the facesheild and the helmet shell was deformed. This was at the track in a race, maybe going 45mph at the time, but a crash is a crash.IMG_5654.jpg
