It sounds cool and looks cool. I love mine and got it for $350.

I'd do it again.

 

Why waste $$ on CAIs?

 

Completely stock set ups yes , on modified motors like mine it works very well !!!

Basically any engine is a multi cyl air pump , the more you can stuff into it then quickly remove it you're going to make more hp

 

In my 4runner when I am offroading I can get a better understanding of what rpm and how much throttle I am giving without looking at the tachometer. Just by hearing the motor. Makes it much more enjoyable on the trail.

 

Cold air set ups do work !!!

 

Is there a significant sound improvement wth the TRD CAI? And I've Been asking this for a long time: Does the TRD CAI reduce your low end torque? Seems like most aftermarket CAI on many vehicles lose some low-end power in exchange for a little more on the high-end?

Also I'm going to have to see the dyno chart for said TRD vs Stock CAI test.

 

From my own personal experience, I like a CAI, I can notice the difference when pulling my bass boat, I pulled my boat with my wife's 2005 and then my 2012 with the CAI, and hands down mine pulled the boat better. I know they don't add much hp, but a motor is a big air pump, and the more air u can shove down it, the better the towing and/or mpg. Trust me it's anywhere from 110 to 160 round trip to Lake Okeechobee. I know some don't like the CAI, but I was asking how anyone with the TRD CAI was working and if they liked it. I could care less about others opinions whether they are worth it or not, just how people liked there TRD CAI.

 

It's my money and I will spend as I like. Others have their own opinions and that's fine. I just don't want to void the warranty. Maybe later I will change it to a Volant system. I am installing a dual cat back system and just wanted to compliment it with a TRD CAI.

 

For the 3.5 3rd Gen it seems there is nothing to really gain.

 

I’m running a TRD CAI with a aftermarket intake tube from HPS it’s worth 6hp above 3000rpm and double the sound at WOT.

 

Volant makes a lot of claims on their website but not a single one is backed up with any sort of test data. It's pretty much, "believe us, we're freaking awesome." If you like the way it looks or like the way it sounds, that's fine, but that's about it.

 

6hp, if that, is not worth $400. A $400 skidplate would serve you better.

 

It seems some are hung up on the price. $350-$400 is worth it to me because I know what it is like to pull a boat with a CAI and without. Those of you that feel the $00 isn't worth it, that's fine, remain on the sideline. IMO, I have had nothing but great results pulling my bass boat with a CAI. I am not looking for huge HP gains just performance and I have had really good performance when I had one and will be installing a new one in mjy 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 to go with the dual Cat back exhaust. Between the 2 they will work great together. Those of you that don't seem it is worth it, keep your money in your pocket and try not to trash those of us that install a CAI. For the non-believers in CAI and If you really want horsepower just install the TRD Supercharger for $3500-$4500 and then you will get the HP u want.

 

Ronzio, how long ago did you install your CAI and do you like it on your truck

 

I'm not "trashing you". It's that the actual measurable gains are so small (as opposed to 'butt dyno') that the money would be better spent on other mods. I'd be 100% in agreement with you if you could get as little as 10hp. But the tests that have been done show little gains.

Now as for voiding the warranty, I would think an OEM Toyota TRD CAI installed by a Toyota dealer would not void the warranty. I don't know if a dealer would do that though.

 

These guys claim 17hp, 19tq with dyno sheets. Not sure if we can trust the claim but I've seen these gains on other motors.

Looks impressive. And if, I said IF, their claims can be verified independently I'll be the first in line for my serving of roadkill crow soup. Over the years lots of these CAI devices have been tested on a wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs. When installed on otherwise stock modern vehicles, the measurable gains have been very little. Now if you make other changes to the engine and computer system of the vehicle, a CAI can be an excellent piece of the puzzle to higher performance. But by itself it usually does not give you much.

 

Like I said, unless you pull a boat on a regular basis (weekly) like I do then u wouldn't know. All I know is with the CAI and Cat back system, there is a difference and it pulled my bass boat great. My wife has a 2018 Tacoma 3.5L v-6 dbl cab (XP Package) stock and there was a difference. I don't care about dyno's, HP, I am going by REAL TIME Driving performance. It seems JNG you are hung up on HP numbers and dyno numbers which I could care less about. I am in the real world pulling my boat. I just wanted to herar from anyone that had a TRD CAI on there Tacoma and none of this outside noise. I am not racing it on a track, that is what is the matter with a lot of people (SHOW ME THE NUMBERS) seems all they want. I asked about others and how they liked it, that's it.

 

Everyday driving, pulling a boat, real time performance. Not what did it dyno at what are the numbers, etc, couldn't give a damn. I know what mine did pulling my boat.
