If they put a 8 speed transmission like my highlander has, and it behaves like it, I'll trade my 2017.

I'm not doubting you but I am curious if that is only near the end of the year for tax and model year change purposes?

    Agreed! I’m curious about that.
When Toyota refreshed the Highlander in 2017 they boost the HP and torque numbers from 270 to 295 and torque numbers up to 270 and added the 8 speed.
That might be enough to get me to trade in my 17, but if the power train remains untouched I will wait for the full redesign.

Looking to upgrade from my 2010 DC Sport this year. If they fix the grill/overbite the Tacoma might go back on my list. I really liked the looks of the front of the 2015 model. Give me something similar to that and take my money. If the grill doesn’t get fixed.....well...may be a Tundra in my future.

Every electronic parking brake I've ever seen was on a disk. It uses an electric motor to drive the piston.

75% of Tacoma drivers and 99% of Tacoma drivers not on TacomaWorld don't know what kind of brakes are on the truck. That's why they keep adding cupholders and buttons. That's what most people seem to want.

I wish they would partner with an off road shop and make a real off road truck like the Bison. But they'd only sell 1,000 of them.

They have been offering incentives pretty much the whole time for the 17’s and 18’s and now the 19’s. The only catch is... Some of the lower rates are for shorter term loans. Also, a lot of times the rebate can not be used together with the low interest rate. At least that’s what the website says. You can use college grad and active duty along with some incentives sometimes though.

You would be surprised with the aesthetics. Just did the swap in my son's Gen 2 Taco. Looks factory.

seriously every person around here in a tacoma is 60+ years old. I feel weird when i drive mine just because of that association.

can't wait for the new bronco to be shown. hope ford doesn't fvck it up.

i also don't believe they'll put in an 8spd from the highlander. highlander is setup as fwd with the ability to send power to the rear. the transmission is not designed to be packaged in a rwd platform. i'm not aware of any toyota that has anything more than 6 gears in any of its rwd based vehicles (truck, suv, etc).

now, if they changed the 5th gear ratio that might help.

Yep, when they refreshed the taco back in 2012, they kept the same 5 speed transmission & 4.0 engine. However in 2017 when they refreshed the highlander, they put a new engine, transmission & the TSS.

A lot of companies though have been using FI to get more power out of smaller engines with better fuel economy, albeit usually using turbos rather than superchargers. Look at the Ranger where you can't even get a V6, just the 4-cylinder turbo. Heck, they've even sadly started using turbo 4s in full size trucks now.

Electric is coming, but its going to be a looong time before us peons can afford them. Look at Tesla - they've been selling consumer cars (Model S, 3, X) for ~6+ years and still is out of reach of the average consumer. Even the 3, which was supposed to be the "cheap" model is expensive. If the Rivian R1T was the same cost as a Taco, I'd be line to get one ASAP! Hopefully Toyota will decide to start taking it more seriously and bring a hybrid (or, gasp, a full EV) in the next gen. Kind of sad since they were so forward thinking with one of the first hybrids in the Prius, but haven't really done much since other than update it here and there.

Well the Bronco is already announced to be unibody rather than BoF, isn't it? So...

Right, a turbo I could have seen, and I'm honestly surprised they didn't go that route from the start - a supercharger though is just silly, and is never going to happen. Regardless, at this point, I just can't see Toyota putting a new engine in that isn't a hybrid.

Then they can have the NA V6, and a hybrid options, which I feel is a sensible modern lineup.

It would seem some of the goals are of the refresh are:

    1. Aesthetics
    2. Technology Upgrades
    3. Driver Comfort

I'm not sure those will help the truck fully compete or fend-off existing and upcoming competition. They could improve the efficiency and performance of the truck with an updated 8 or 10 speed automatic transmission (with a good calibration and shift schedule). They could also make subtle changes to the engine and mapping to bring it a bit more in line with the Ranger from a power delivery standpoint. I don't see them changing the brakes, and they probably won't shoot for best in class power. However, something to carry the truck through to the next generation. By 2022, a 6 speed automatic is going to be pretty dated, as it's already getting pretty dated. The 2nd Gen went a long time without upgrades, but the segment was pretty uncompetitive. I don't think Toyota would want to lose their sales volume of this truck.

Another way to look at it, 2005 - 2019 and the only change is one additional gear in the transmission.

I believe the rumors are that the Bronco will be based on the Ranger which is body on frame.

To each is there own, but I got to ask. The grill is the deciding factor between a full size and mid siz truck?o_O

Can you guys tell me, what's the largest tire I can fit on a 2020 Tacoma. No lift and no cutting.

Bottom line, it had better be more than just LED headlights and entune 3.0.

There are plenty of realistic changes changes that can be made to this.
