Just picked up a Barcelona red 2019 dclb. Shifts just like my old 2006 did and I couldn’t be happier. 3.5 has plenty of power and more in the higher end then my 4.0. One thing is the throttle response of my 2nd gen was a little better but the ect mode makes up for most of that. Overall very pleased with my purchase.

Did you have the transmission TSB done? I imagine the 2019 has it already. I am taking my 17 in to get it applied at the next oil change.

Oof - that sucks. At least it is warranty. My Tundra had the same list of early casualties, then went on to serve many years with no issues. Just bad luck sometimes. The Tacoma hasn’t really had anything go wrong but I am getting the TSB for the trans done.

A hell of a lot more in the upper end than 2nd gen I had. It puts you back in the seat.
2nd Gen bogs down as rpms rise.
    Like a parachute is deploying.

Do any of you guys with the 2019 feel like it shifts weird i would say too fast to where it makes your truck buugg down until you apply more gas ? My truck has 2500 miles now and its shifting "too early" i would say i mean is getting annoying but i dont know if is too early to tell

Yeah... you have the same tranny and software as thousands of other (2016-2018) owners, and nothing is different or "fixed."

I have a 2018, don't know if the TSB has been done. When I first got the truck for the first couple hundred miles the trans shifted weirdly. Same symptoms as everyone talks about. After another 500 miles it seems to have leveled out and shifts pretty normally. I just came from a Ford with the new 10spd trans that "learned" your driving style. Every time you reset the battery the trans had to relearn/adapt. It would shift kind of hard for a few hundred miles. Does the Taco have an adapting trans like Ford?

You can't improve on perfection and the AT/ on my '16 with over 41k miles on the clock has been stellar

No fixing required, its the same A/T for all 3rd gen

Your experience is the exact opposite of mine. The first 500-1000 miles were great and I was confident that the complaints about the '16 and '17 models had been addressed. Then it started stumbling and giving me inconsistent throttle response. Had the TSB applied and it is better, but it's still doing a lot of the same stuff. Been to two dealers and they both says there are no further updates.

I'll agree that the 3.5 has a ton of power in the upper RPM band. Getting to it is a pain the in neck though.

The 4.0 trucks are quicker than the 3.5s. I hope they did fix the transmission but the engine is still a loser imo.

Good for a civic but not good for a truck.

I got the tune, I reaped the benefits... haha. Not to mention 2k+ customers on this forum.

I’m not sure if you actually read it, Mat is a brilliant tuner and has worked wonders for these trucks.
However, if you don’t think it’s broke, don’t fix it

It's the result that matters, not the rpm gage. Runs circles around 2nd gen. Just like Ranger using ONLY a 4 cylinder in a truck, who would have ever thought. New times better tech. Get on board.

I don't think, I do know for a fact it's not broke, that it's an awesome beast

Actually slower than a 2nd gen to 60 but it's a truck who really cares. I will never get a 3rd gen. I went and got a 4Runner Pro instead and love it. Still have a 2nd gen and it's been a great vehicle.

Wrong again. Same if not a tad faster.
    https://www.zeroto60times.com/vehicle-make/toyota-0-60-mph-times/
And much faster than your 4 runner.
3rd catches up after 2nd is a tad faster off the line. That equates to better faster passing times.
Glad I dumped my dated decade old 2nd and never looked back.
So why hang out in 3rd Gen forum and complain ?

It feels even better if you use 91+ octane. Low rpm hesitation and pre shift pinging go away.
