    Summary of project:

    What?

Allow for remote starter’s auxiliary output to toggle INDEPENDENTLY, your tail gate’s Pop ‘n’ Lock via FOB Smart Phone App (for those who have the add-on) from me. Doing it with the FOB is pointless because you already have that method by hitting unlock on the whole vehicle so FOB is not the point here.

    How?

Using a plug n play supplemental add-on interface kit that will interface to your remote starter module and pop n lock wire leads.

    Why?

If you have a tonneau cover and are parked over night in an unfamiliar place, or going hiking, or even surfing, this allows you to only have to have your phone with you to control. Essentially your truck’s bed becomes a safe or locker. You can throw expensive goods in there, keys you don’t want to lose during outdoor or water sport activities, and they will be inaccessible and unseen by potential thieves. Thieves will only break into something where they can SEE the goods/rewards. Peeling a tonneau cover off to expose the space takes longer and it could be a fruitless effort. They likely won’t take that chance.

But wait a minute you say, what if they break into the main cabin and toggle the power door locks? Thought of that too, with this kit, you’ll have a toggle switch up stream of the remote Starter signal where you will hide wherever you please (OUTSIDE) that will break the line so that the main cabin’s power door locks don’t send a signal to the pop n lock, your tailgate remains LOCKED.

    Example 1:

So an example would be, throw your keys in the bed (hide them somewhere in there if it makes you feel better), then open up your app and lock the vehicle. After locking the vehicle, hit your hidden toggle/kill switch so that the power door locks from within the cabin CAN’T be used to access your tailgate and bed/contents. So for outdoor activities, sports, water sports and so on, just carry your tailgate key so that if you accidentally lose your phone, jump into the lake with it, or your battery dies, lose network connectivity, you’re not finding yourself in a predicament.

And if you lose your tailgate key, and phone or your phone is dead, no problem! Download the app on a buddies phone or call someone back home who can load it on their phone real quick. Give them your login info and bam, if they have Wi-Fi or a better cell signal, they can unlock it for you, and the vehicle for that matter. If the kill switch isn’t enabled, then unlocking the vehicle via app works the same!

    Example 2:

Use your truck bed (provided you have a tonneau) as a point of exchange or receiving. You’re expecting a friend to drop a package off? Call a neighbor after receiving some Tacoma parts to stash it for you? Bit where? We don’t quite trust everyone enough to enter our home, know our home alarm’s security code, or our garage’s entry code, and so on, but we’re ok having someone access our empty truck bed to PUT something in there for safe keeping for us till we come back, or even a package for a family member. We’re also likely ok with having someone who needs to pick up something when our schedules don’t line up from our truck bed.

How do we do this if we’re at work, busy running errands, or even out of state or maybe out of the country! I know I’ve had times where I spent a few weeks out of the country, and well it would’ve been nice to have a family member or neighbor swing by and stuff it in my lockable tailgate with Tonneu when the mail and packages piled up to an obvious “no ones home, come rob us” point. Because as soon as you get back, your too lazy and jet lagged to immediately get your stuff back, it takes days sometimes to coordinate a time where you can get it back, but you need to see what bills you need to pay right away!

The use and reasons are there, just need to get creative.

I was just thinking about running a switch to my cab only to lock and unlock tailgate. Pop N Lock does offer a switch unit but it does not look too great. I would like to run a factory or factory style switch.

    You’re talking about a power doorlock switch...right?

I’m talking about a kill switch hidden on one of the leads...outside the vehicle as a means of using your smart phone remote start app with a user add-able button in the app to control an auxiliary output from the remote starter via app. My project focuses on using your bed as a locker/safe if you have a tonneau cover, and ensuring you locked your tailgate even if you don’t remember to prevent theft. The tube clamps are deterrents, but they don’t stop theft. Ok, I posted some details above for clarity! Read now...
