Got hit on the left rear quarter panel in my work truck (2009 5-lug Tacoma). Just caught the rear wheel and tire. Other than the wheel and tire needing replaced, no damage to axle. It's been six years, we still have the truck, no problems with the axle.

Had a friend get hit in his Chevy 2500, hard enough to dislocate the axle. Ten years later he still has the truck. Axle is fine. Just replaced the springs, I think.

Get it to a body shop you trust, have them look it over. I wouldn't be too worried about hidden damage to the axle.

    Update...

Dropped her off Tuesday at the frame shop. Frame is fine. They did pull and inspect the leafs. RR leaf pin got sheared, RR leaf is bent.

So Now back to the suspension shop.

In regard to the wheel and brake drum, TacomaWorld is helpful once again.

I have literally thousands of pics of every part of my truck, inside and out and about a Terabyte of video. I produced a few pics...

They were trying to say that the brake drum being out of alignment could have been an on going issue I never noticed. And some of the damage to the inside of the rim may have been from something else. Etc... I provided the following link... No Drum alignment issues in the pic and the damage to the wheel after the accident is not present here.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/speedo-odometer-cruise-control-stopped-working.575310/

Hard to offer up any denial when a pic was published on a public forum.

    We will see...

Anyways, where we are at as far as suspension, leafs, blocks, etc...

That's seems pretty much settled. They said bring it back to my suspension shop, fix it, send the bill.

Oh, when I called today... This is interesting as far as the soap opera...

When I gave my claim number they asked "which team do you need to speak with regarding your claim?"

I asked, "there is Now two teams asigned"

She said yes, "the one for liability and the one for damage?"

Like, stating it as a question, like I should know?

I picked Cali's because their great wheels, and one of those things where if you look at it and see Cali's and don't know, it's no big deal. But if you see Cali and you know, you know they were chosen on purpose. That's kinda the theme of the build, debadged and hand picked parts :) Anyone can buy Fox Coil overs, etc.. I picked Anarchy's because the design is different, I like the design, plus few have them. Wish I would have gone with Gun Metal finish though. Eventually they will get powder coated, just other things on the list first :)

    Claim update....

I had to put my 'adjuster shoes' on again and step up in the end to get This portion of the claim somewhat settled. The insurance company was only wanting to pay me for an LKQ leaf spring at a value of $100. I played along, they wouldn't budge!

They were saying the part would be fine, just as good as what I had.

I said no, an LKQ replacement could lead to a vehicle fire and possibly bodily harm.

I produced the leaf spring recall notice I got and the TIS notice sent to dealerships and invoice from when mine were changed under recall.

They are paying full dealership price for an OEM TSB leaf spring.

I've replaced about everything on this truck, never a used part (except for the J-VIN they didn't come in Tacoma's) not starting Now :)

Next step, figure out if there is damage to bearings....

Only took what 6 weeks, but yesterday, they finally did make a ruling on liability. I'm not at fault.
