Hello to all - I'm the new guy here and I'm looking at a 2019 Tacoma TRD Off road with the Premium and Tech packages. I'm trying to get some real world opinions on pricing. It has the MSRP at 42,567 as it sits and they are at 37,500 plus a 649 dealer fee and ttl. I'd love a Pro but can't justifiy the price difference. I would be leaving a 2011 F150 FX4 and it would be a downsize for.me but 80% of the time, it's just me in the truck. So, other than pricing.....
1 - How is the JBL stereo? Start saving for a new aftermarket system?
2 - Seats - it kills me you can't get power seats. Are the Tacoma's doable as far as comfort goes?
    3- Road noise - excessive?
4 - If I do this, any recommendations as far as tweaks and such to do right off the bat?
5 - Headlights - again no LED or HID option. The sticker says "projector beam" so this is a halogen bulb?

Sorry for all the questions - the dealer is about 90 miles away and haven't been there yet but I'd appreciate some info. TIA.

    1. I love the JBL system.
    2. I think the seats are great but take it for a long test drive and form you own opinion.
    3. No complaints from me about road noise at all.
    4. nope
    5. The factory bulbs are halogen but can easily be replaced with either LED or HID.

    1. I'm not an audiophile, so the JBL/speaker system has been fine for me. I got my iPod in the glovebox, and it's usually randomizing 80 gigs of of old hardcore albums. Take your music to the dealership!
    2. Sit it in. I'm about 6' (edit: not 6") and I've never had issues, but everyone's arms and legs are different lengths. The telescoping steering wheel barely telescopes, so keep that in mind. As far as comfort goes, what vehicle are you leaving? All the tech bells and whistles were pretty awesome to me (coming from an 07 Nissan Frontier), but my wife's Acura kills the Tacoma in that area.
    3. It's a truck, and road noise is always going to be an issue. My Frontier was the same way. It's not terrible, but it's not great. Tacoma isn't a luxury truck, even if they price the Pro that way. I listen to my stereo at 30 anyhow, so it doesn't bother me.

Opinions are the cheapest commodity on earth. I would do a through test drive and see what you think. That being said, I love mine. Upgraded lights to LED. Seats are surprisingly comfortable. Don't have the JBL sound system in mine so can't help you there. GL

The drawback to the JBL system is that the woofer and amp take up half the storage volume behind the rear seats. I don’t like that.

    1. I am a sound nerd and the JBL system to me sounds good when you really have it cranked. Even at low volumes you can tell its not cheap but it really breathes up around 30-35 with bluetooth streaming
    2. I am comfortable in mine ('17 TRD OR AT DCSB) but I did come from a Civic Si
    3. Road noise is about the same as my civic if not a little quieter
    4. Only mods I did was get some coverking seatcovers
    5. Definitely change the stock halogens, even if it is with some more expensive halogens like Sylvania ZXEs or Phillips similar. I have changed all mine to LEDs but thinking about going HID with the low beams

Tacoma is not a luxury truck and will definitely be a "downgrade" from the F150. The new ecoboosts are really nice man- if you like your Ford consider a new F150. However yeah TRD off road or sport package is definitely worth it. JBL is great- I have it even in my 2012.

Definitely test drive before you buy. It will be a big change from the F150. IMO the Tacoma is a better truck- but if you're the kind of guy who changes cars every 2 or 3 years the Ford will hold up fine and give you way more bang for your buck up front.

Projector is just the glass lens.
Seats you can add a spacer in the rear. Couple options available on here.
I wanted to bitch about the power seats but it is what it is. I think it's quiet on the road. JBL Premium is hot trash. I barely get any bass and stuff rattles. Mine only has 200 miles on it. Ill have to Dynamat.

I have that exact truck in a 17. JBL is fine with me, a little muddled but it will do. The ride is fine but a little softer than the sport. Road noise isn't bad. That price you are getting is pretty good. Mine was 36,579 with a MSRP at 40,2xx. If they are at 37,500 try to get a little better but know that you have a pretty good price already. Test drive it on the interstate with hills if you can to get a feel for the transmission shifting. They will downshift to 4th pretty frequently to maintain speed. If you are ok with that then you should be good.

Last day of the month . I'd tell em less than that. I shoot for $36,000 OTD and hope they come back at $37,000 or possibly $36,500
But that's coming from a 2nd gen guy. (old school)

I’m 6’3” and not a fan of the seats or downshifting of the transmission when on the interstate with the cruise set. Love everything else about the truck and just drive my other trucks when I need to crunch miles. If you’re tall, I’d suggest a long test drive if you don’t have a backup.

I am a 2nd gen but our house has a new RAV4 with tech package. Not a fan of what you get. I would much rather have Android auto/apple carplay in an aftermarket deck.

The roof noise is the worst of all the sound entry points. I put dynamat and insulation for hot/cold weather throughout the cab and it made a HUGE difference. If I could do it all over again I would have ripped the interior out when I bought it and upgraded the sound system/add deadener at the same time.

Road noise is going to be a step down I think. F150s are pretty refined.

I'm a little jealous of you guys buying the third gens nowadays. I got my '16 in later part of 2015, and the Offroad 4x4 was a hot new commodity within 100 miles of Los Angeles. I basically paid sticker and waited a couple months, since I only found one dealer who would even search for the build I wanted, much less negotiate. So if you're paying 36-37 for fully-loaded OR4x4, you're paying less than some people paid 3 years ago. Obviously geography affect price, too... but still.

Actually, more than half. I prefer the storage space, too. Hopefully JBL will get pulled back out of the Premium package for 2020.

I am kinda glad the JBL was not part of my truck, the inexpensive speaker upgrade made it sound better anyway.

That’s probably the one thing I’ll have to live with on the truck I plan to buy in the 2020 model year. Looking forward to hearing what is planned at the Chicago launch next week.
