your FJ is super sweet

 

Going to see where I am with weight, a Hi lift is a great alternative, not to say that a 5k winch w/ synthetic rope is not much heavier that the jack. I might put one on it in the future. I have on on my FJ and have never used it, always do it with the Hi lift or a strap.

 

The nice part of this truck is how light it is. I'm really looking forward to the challenge of building this truck and staying within it's weight/power capabilities. When you start to add a fridge, second battery, camping gear and roof rack it all adds up fast. I'm going to have a rack(BajaRack) on the shell and I'm looking into a rooof top tent configuration for it.

I'll be running BFG KM-2 M/T's 255-85-16's on the stock wheels for now. I dont want to do any gear work untill the truck is outfitted, due to the load weights. My FJ(in the first part of the thread) has ATRAC and the E-locker, and for the type of offroading I do it works fine. I want a capable truck and not a rock crawler and I haven't driven the truck long enough to give the LSD a good eval. One thing about 4 wheeling, is that our conditions around the US are very different from one place to another. I live in the mountains of San Diego at 4200 ft. so we get snow up to three feet deep, and on the same day I can drive for 30 minutes and be in the desert in sand, and Baja is only an hour away! I open to any feed back, but remember I'm dealing w/ a regular cab 4 cyl.
I do love the V6 power of the FJ!! Engine mods? I'm going to install a snorkle and a CAI if I can find a sealed unit, or fab one. I will start on the overlanding comforts as soon as I pick up the truck. Lots of ideas.

 

Today Icon suspension is finished remote resi front and rear, uca's, front bumper on, rear needs powder coating anf fuel can holders & tire, using my old BFG AT's from the FJ until the MT's come. Pictures from today:

im no expert but i think it is a vehicle used for adventure camping and self sustained living on an offroad capable platform

I think it's just a name that people give there vehicle for what they think they will use it for. I like the term weekend warrior much better

This is exactly what i want to do with my reg cab. What size tires are on it now? I think 255/85 16s would be awesome but id want 4.88s. I live in big bear and have a pretty steep drive i make on a regular basis. I dont want to kill power/mileage

 

They're the stock wheels and 285/70/17 BFG AT's, (33X12.5) I will keep everyone posted on the effects on the mileage and performance. The 255/85/16 (33X9.5) is a strange size and only a few tire companies make them, BFG, Maxxis and maybe Nitto. We'll see I leaving on a trip to the Sierra's on Monday so it will be a good shake down.
