I disagree and have ~36k on my 2017 Sport DCSB MT
    - I had a squeaky clutch once, then added disc brake grease - haven't had another squeak in 2+ years...
    - This MT is one of the smoothest MT's I have driven and I have driven many many cars and trucks from Porsche to Fire trucks..
    - Clunks - not sure what you mean, once in a blue moon if I shift incorrectly from 4th to 6th it may have a bit of a clunk or down shifting from 5th to 6th. This is on me, not the mechanics

Man - you're lucky. My 18 Pro had nothing but constant clunking from drivetrain slack. Drove me nuts.

I feel like an 8speed transmission is pushing what is realistic in a refresh, but man, that would be a nice upgrade.

That’s an example of the new entune unit not the actual location / dash.

It is probably the #1 complaint people have with the 3rd gen, so it wouldn't surprise me if they try to address it. Assuming they have a ready-made one from another vehicle that they can just bolt up, then it might not be too big of a deal to put it in and test and tweak it.

It's very curious why from almost a third of the grill, on down, isn't being shown in that teaser. Makes me wonder if there is going to be some significant changes. I'm not holding my breath, though.

    Holding out for Feb. 7th.

Would be great if they offered a decent ECU reflash and Entune update for CarPlay across earlier 3rd gen models.

I'm preparing myself for this to be little more than LED headlights, and entune 3.0. lol

Thankfully its not just me that feels this way, as others posted info to show that I was not confused. I was making reference to the early Tundras. Basically both the Tacoma and Ranger are now the size of the full size of old school.

    They've had the 8speed in all the F cars (IS-F, RC-F, GS-F).

While it would be neat to see an 8speed in the Tacoma, its going to shift even more than the current AT. I think its more about the shift programming to smooth things out.

It is definitely more about the programming of the ECU and TCU...OVTune has already proven that in the 3rd gen

All you have to do is look back at the last 25 years of this truck to realize, that's probably exactly what it is. It'll be incredibly minor.

Anyone wanting more than that is going to be disappointed for sure. They won't be putting in different transmissions, or changing engines or adding a diesel option.

I kinda realized that later when I looked below the screen. Too much dash sticking out.

I doubt that. The uptake on manuals on the 86 is massive from what I've heard, especially compared to other vehicles. I don't think that they'd drop it or they'd get lots of backlash.

The 16+ LC in NA definitely has the 8 spd. The 08-15 has the 6 spd.

I'm sure it will just stay where it is now, no reason to move it.

article i read must be out of date.

so what it comes down to is toyota has existing 8spd's that will fit the tacoma possibly.

next up is would it fit, and how hard would it be to update the programming to work in an existing platform. i doubt they'd invest that much effort into a midcycle refresh. i could definitely see that for the full model update in 2024 or whatever.
