Sure would be nice to be able to easily remove the font bumper or add an aftermarket without cutting shit

That’s surely a benefit. But another benefit I miss is that the bumper in that pic is free to “bump” and flex. For an example, let’s say you’ve got your trusty utility vehicle- your Tacoma, and you want to nudge a water tank just a little to the right so that you can attach a camlock to it in order to irrigate your mini corn field. You can nudge the tank, and the bumper is free to flex in a straight line, backwards, without destroying the fender, if it were to even flex at all. I’ve done this in my 01 when it had the factory bumper. I could even STAND on it, to give me a boost onto something. There was no paint to flex/chip off, and where the bumper met the fender allowed some give.

The new bumpers, though not as useful or practical on a utility truck, are safer. That’s fine. And color matched or not, they all have the same weaknesses. But from an aesthetic standpoint, the color matching standard on trucks is off putting for me. It’s a glossy celebration of the deletion of one of the most important qualities in a truck- durability.

Its weird when people look up photos of men in flannels to post on a truck forum.
