What do these allow you to do? Are they just an extension of your existing wiring? Just curious and trying to follow along.

I'll mod these instead of the bulbs. Plug and Play afterwards

Instead of trimming the tab on the inside of an H9 bulb like below (trimmed left, stock right)

You add a small wire harness extension and trim the harness as shown in post #78 below:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...de-not-led-or-hid.475064/page-4#post-18845649

So rather than trimming the bulbs every time there is a bulb change, with the trimmed harness you only have to do it once and now you have a plug and play solution going forward.

I ordered the GE +130's instead of going the H9 route but if the bulb life is significantly longer with the H9's I might switch to those after these burn out.

    @crashnburn80

I have ordered 4 of the GE Ultra +130 bulbs for the lows and fogs. However, I am now wondering if there is something like these in amber for the fogs that will produce better light output? I can not remember reading anything concerning amber lights.

Already on it. Hows this for color?

    A648E8BC-33D4-407A-B5DB-E9A4C3BBCFCC.jpg

You can see a teaser of what I am working on putting together in my fog thread post #378 here. This is using a 2300k (measured at 2500k) interference coated bulb from Xencn. These are offered in an H11 +80 which would be plug and play for the fogs, though I have not tried the H11 version.

Interference coated bulbs are more efficient than color coated (absorption) ones, but all filters reduce output. Fortunately halogen light does not produce much blue short wave light, so filtering the output to remove the blue short wave light to have the beam become more yellow/amber doesn't have anywhere near the negative effect as putting a blue filter on a bulb to filter out the yellow output, which is the majority of the light output. Lunex has their interference filtered Plasma Golds +80s at 2900k and Nokya offers standard interference filtered 2900k All Weather bulbs. I'm experimenting with Xencn because they use a more aggressive filter for lower color temp while also claiming to use an increased performance bulb. So far the results look promising but I am waiting on more product to arrive. I currently run an All Season interference bulbs in my headlights. You can see a comparison for how this works in my headlight post #1520 here.

    Thank you

I had previously read that post but had forgotten the information about the all-weather bulbs.

Just for clarification, note that picture is not the All Weather bulb, that is an Xencn 2300k bulb which is much more yellow/amber.

    Thanks

Where do you purchase these (Xencn 2300k H11 bulb) from - do not see them on Amazon.

They don’t distribute to North America. You can sometimes find them on eBay, but Aliexpress is cheaper.

I don’t typically buy any Chinese products for my truck if I can avoid it. The quality just usually isn’t there. For example I replaced my Chinese Hella fog relay with a Bosch European one. I’ve so far tested a couple bulbs from Xencn, and their build precision seems decent, better than some much more expensive bulbs I’ve seen. Just looking at their packaging quality is way better than most. I have no data though on bulb life or brand quality (other than it is an Osram company) outside of the very limited bulbs I’ve tried though.

The H9s do not have a glare cap for open reflector use like in the fogs. In the projector headlights the internal light shield protects against glare from the missing glare cap. For a plug and play solution you will want to use an H11 in the fogs.

@crashnburn80, I work a lot with interior/exterior lighting in theatrical, historic, and commercial applications, and your analysis (and the science behind it) is spot on! The science behind lighting and lighting technology can be mind boggling, and you definitely know your shit. This forum is lucky to have you and your technical expertise!

Thanks! For some reason I just find the science of lighting fascinating and really interesting to study. Here is my most recent book purchase. One of the PhD authors was head of Hellas R&D.
