I love my Toyota's, but my old Ranger had the absolute best heat of any vehicle I have ever owned. That truck would burn you out of there and it got hot fast. My Tundra takes longer to heat up (also has much bigger cab), but once it is hot it is so much better insulated.

Does anyone know where to get a MD TRD sticker with the MD flag embedded in it? I saw one a long time ago and my internet searches are coming up empty.

Ours is fairly new, and a Trane. Doesn't mean the capacitor isn't bad though. It uses a 5"x20"x20" pleated filter that I changed before leaving for work.

I honestly think the new thermostat is too eco centric. I'm still learning how to control it the way I want, and it not being in control. The only reason I switched was to have remote access, and it was $100 off the regular price.

I've been monitoring it all day. The temps at the house outside are 17°, full sun, and I've been gradually raising the temp from 62 to now 65. So it might have been a combination of a dirty filter and the eco sense aspect.

I'll know a little more later.

Still have this up for grabs if any of you guys interested in a TRD Intake? Good for the 2005-2011 Tacoma 4.0 PN is PTR03-35090 It's not complete, the little plastic filter gauge thing is not included. A new one is about $20 from Toyota under PN PTR03-34071 The TRD filter is included but it's pretty nasty as you can see. OEM filter works or try cleaning this one up. The lower section is slightly damaged around the 2 areas that retain the metal clips that lock the top section on. This can be repaired using a generic latch system of your own. $150 OBO or open to a trade. Bought this thinking it would fit my 5th gen but it doesn't so I want it out of my way.

Well, I followed the online instructions that you tell it what you have going to where on your old thermostat and it tells you where to plug those wires into the Nest. I even sent them an email before hand and they confirmed my setup was right.

I ultimately had to change the lockout outside temp to Zero to get the Aux to shut down.

Is it possible that the furnace just can't keep up? The house is very well insulated and typically stays at any temp we set the thermostat to.

Since we've owned the system, which had to be installed due to the original system when we bought the house taking a dump, I've had the capacitor replaced once. I am not sure what causes them to die but could it be that is happening again?

I just checked the system (the wife is working from home today) and it is set to 66 and the temp reading says 66. The outside temp is 15* so as far as I am concerned, right now it is functioning properly.

I think we are due for a maintenance check anyway so I think as soon as the weather breaks and I can get one scheduled that's not considered an emergency, I will set one up.

    Thanks Jerry!!!!!!!

It is possible the heat pump can't keep up without auxiliary heat. All electric heat pumps are pretty efficient these days, but still aren't meant for super cold temps. Gas backup are more common in colder climates. I have all electric and a very new, very efficient home (built it myself) and I still have my aux heat running when it is below 25 degrees outside. My electric bills are not bad since the system is only 3 years old and I have a gas fireplace to knock the edge off. Part of my wishes I had done a true gas backup, but my electric heat has no problem keeping my house at 70 no matter the outside temp.

Ok, just checked it again and it is still maintaining 66. The temp is set to 66 and the house is at 66 so it is off currently. Even though the outside temp is reading 16* the furnace is operating correctly in my mind. Now obviously, the temp in the house will drop quicker at 16* outside than normal but it should take about an hour or so.

What does/doesn't help is that the lower level is living space and almost completely below grade, and we have two bedrooms partially over the garage. The front of the house is half way below grade but the back is completely below grade. That means that the earth around the underground portions at 18" below are 50ish degrees no matter what. But above the freeze line and the exposed portions are taking a beating. I do know our attic is insulated well because whenever it snows the roof is completely covered and stays uniform through the thaw. It's standard stick construction so standard wall insulation with double pane Anderson windows. It might be time though to go around the doors and double check the insulation in the jambs however. Those could be significant sources of heat loss or cold intrusion. I'll make that a priority.

I'm just thankful this is minor and we are not suffering. On Monday when the temps stay above 40 I will be wishing for A/C in the house LOL.

This reminds me, my expensive ass furnace included a Honeywell thermostat that my wife opted not to install since she likes the Nest. I am going to list it in the classifieds if anyone is need of a thermostat
