The Third Gen has plenty of torque..... you just have to have it at WOT to get it. :D

For the OP: While I don't think I'd ask Toyota to cover it, this is something that your insurance policy might actually cover. It's not like you were trying to break it and that's why we pay for insurance.

Haha, yeah...I've "never driven in snow". Okay buddy. If you think there's no such thing as sudden traction in snow, especially on a trail, then you're just the kind of keyboard know-it-all with zero actual experience that you come across as being.

Broke the axle housing on a JKU on a muddy hill in 4L. Insurance took care of it.

Went around and around with Chrysler about the whole thing because I thought it should be a warranty issue. Fairly common in JKUs and there were certain big name people in the Jeep community who were taken care of under warranty.

That being said anytime you take a vehicle off-road and push it’s limits you risk breaking expensive stuff. I had a blast with the Jeep and some of the things I was able to do with it but that’s where I learned that if you can’t afford to properly beef up and fix your daily driver you have to think twice before you tackle certain trails.

    Keep it coming. Good thread.

Now I've seen fucked front diffs through my shop over the years. It's usually someone stuck in snow...flooring it, rocking it, whatever.
    So yeah.

It's pretty common on pavement too, especially if its powdery snow that doesnt compress well. Tire spins fast and digs out the snow, hits solid ground, boom sudden traction.

I don't really care what kind of flaming california trail you drive on, snow is snow and will NEVER provide the kind of traction that you get on asphalt, concrete, or rocks, and if you don't believe me, it only proves that not only have you never driven on snow, you probably haven't even SEEN the stuff.
