1st Gen Tacoma 12" OSR Outboard Shock Relocation - Outside Frame Rails

I'm following your statement but it sounds like your "basic geometry" is neglecting the idea that there are other limiting factors in suspension geometry. If your leafs only cycle 10" then you're only going to get a maximum of 10" despite where you location the shock.

This again, is based off of the conversation if you're looking at what the leafs are actually cycling or if you're looking at the wheel travel itself because those are two different things.

 

I think you missed the part where I said "yes this is of course depending on all other aspects including the leafs"

I realize leafs are a problem all on their own.

I completely understand your trying to perfect your product before selling it.
My application would possibly need some modifications any way due to me having frame plates so I wouldn't really care if I don't get the final version.

frame plates add 3/16'' of an inch to the outside of the frame...where these mount. So will take some grinding to modify them a bit so they don't stick out further and sit well on top of the frame.

 

off the shelf 10" Kings work perfect

 

I don't think grinding would be necessary, just set them on the plates. 3/16" isn't much at all in reality, as regards a shock tower

yeah, linking the rear. I'm having trouble finding reasons to replace my factory leafs with other leafs.

Are you planning to retain the stock tank if/when you make that jump?

I'm not familiar with the 1st gen frame plates. Are they on the outside of the frame? 2nd gen frame plates are on the inside and box the frame.

Leafs are fine. Even a SUA setup will pull 18". All depends on your needs though.

You can box the frame. But there are also frame plates that go on the outside and is more common to install as it is easier. It just makes the frame twice as thick.

 

Alright Sharing time.
Played in the dirt some more and found a spot to kind of flex her out again and see what happened this time.

Wasn't as an extreme of an angle as last time where i was rubbing pretty hard. can see it on the shock in the side shot. This time things looked much better. Hitting the bump, AND no rubbing. Rides great and flexes great.

For those who don't want to back read a ton, i'm running alcans and 12" 2.0 foxes with 2" spacers and 16" steelies.

I've got 265's @32" on now, before i had a 285s @33" just to toy around with different tire sizes since i have them. both steelies. 265's are 16" and the 33's are 17"

I also got to pick up some speed and have some behind the shock footage that i've yet to upload. Think i need to make a youtube account to do that.
