State Farm wanted me to use their OBD2 reader to track my driving habits, to try and get me a "safe driver" discount...I laughed and politely declined

I have the reader and it is legit and does not nail you for a lot of things. I suppose I should actually stick it to something as it slides a little on left turns and makes me look like a crazy person making left turns. So far i still have the discount, so IDK

Hell no I'm not putting one of those things in my truck. They've lost their mind if they think I am.

They're getting raw data.. they can't tell if you're braking hard from someone or something pulling out in front of you, or speeding up to avoid something on the highway, etc.. Plus IMO, it seems like an invasion of privacy..

That is what I thought too. Then I was told I could use it for a bit and give it back if it sucked. So far, nothing crazy I have done has gotten me busted. And I have had the thing a year. I also got it because I have an old dodge that has to stay plated and such and does not move. They wanted proof and that thing gives it.

I figure my damn truck and phone are spying on me already. TV prolly is too, so what is one more thing for them to shove up our ass and watch us?

I drive 80mi a day, at mostly highway speeds (80mph)...no way in hell I'm letting them know that information...they'd just raise my rates through the roof (as if they aren't already thanks to my wreck 2 years ago).

In a lot of newer vehicles with all those fancy electronic lane departure, radar cruise, etc. they have telemetry built into the different computers that can tell deceleration rates etc. They have been recording and making freeze frame data for faults or accident stuff like air bags going off. It's only a matter of time before police start plugging into the computer systems to get this data for accident investigations and data collections. Also only a matter of time before that stuff becomes mandatory.

I'm okay with that.. although it probably doesn't tell highway patrol accident reconstruction teams anything they don't already know.. they're really good at what they do. But.. there's a fine line between authorities getting that info, and insurance companies using it to make more assumptions and raise rates more than they already do.

    Do you have the kdss?

I’m in the market for something 4x4 and the 4Runner is at the top of my list so I’m trying to get some opinions and learn stuff before I go in and look.

It wasn't a ditch. It was a lake damnit or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Wait @BravesTaco was there he knows what happened. Even the pre-runnah made it through that water crossing. :pout:
