Any body flex with the access cabs?

Due to the lack of a pillar between the doors unlike the four door double cabs,
do guys notice any flex in the cab?

 

Not me. I'm to old to flex.

Are you implying that the frame made with inferior steel and the most useless paint job imaginable servers a purpose ?

 

I have had my rear tire up in the air from flexing and I didnt notice any.

 

Doesn't it hold the brake lines in place?

 

I'd think poly body mounts to make any problems worse since they have less give than rubber ones.

I could see the back having problems (because of the C channel frame) but I'd have figure the front to be more solid. Even so: short of the doors binding what difference does it make? In a uni-body car body flex is pretty serious but that's just not a concern here is it?

 

You are correct sir ! They hold my LED light strips so they do serve some purpose.

 

Yes there is a lot of flex on my access cab. My rear bumper will flix 1'2" up or down depending on how I am articulating. If you open your doors when you are flexed, you will notice your cab door does not inteferes when you try to close it. The whole truck does flex a lot.

Not to be nitpicky, but there is a difference between a weak frame and a flexible frame. Has anyone here actually bent the frame while wheeling?

 

I don't think it's nitpicky at all...I also am having some difficulty seeing what the issue is. I mean door binding and bed interfering with the cab may be an annoyance but in general flexing is much better than breaking (bending), and a structure that completely resists flexing without breaking under load will carry a huge weight penalty.

Airframe structures are a prime example: wings of a 777 can move up and down 20 feet or more at the wingtip in flight using metals more prone to crack growth and fatigue than steel. They are designed for it.

 

I agree, while I do see body flex in my frame, I do not find it to be a problem...heck, consider it an extra 1/2" of travel in my susp..haha

 

Anyone noticed any significant flex between the front of the bed and the cab?
I'm thinking of putting my popup camper on the '09 TRD AC.
I had it on my S-10, but the Taco is higher from the bottom of the bed to the top of the cab. I'm guessing I'm going to have to put some lumber under the camper to clear the cab top/fin due to camper's cabover/overhang.

I keep the camper on HappyJacks under a carport when not in use and the clearances are pretty close as is, I'm just wondering how much extra I may need to shim it up to clear the cab and still fit under the carport.

If a frame is too rigid it will snap under load.

 

I thought the rear doors flaked paint in the corners on the Double cab because of flexing?

 

I don't know about that, but I do know a couple guys with 05+ DC's that have stress cracks in that area from metal fatigue. No good way to fix it either. Sucks big time.

 

I think the infamous james did. And In2nite had his fram start cracking around his shock towers.
