i have a 01 tacoma 2 wheel drive v6 wih 155k miles and it has been making some strange sounds and was wondering if anyone what they were and what to fix.

    sound #1
1 out of 8 times when i start up my truck i hear a screeching/squeeling sound coming from the engine bay. a buddy of mine says that the alternator belt needs to be replaced from usual wear in tear over the years, would replacing the belt eliminate the sound?

    sound #2
when driving going around residential roads when i hit pot holes or bumps in the road i can hear something rattling underneath the truck when my windows are down. it sounds like exhaust might be loose but ive gotten underneath the truck and shook everything i could find to imitate the problem but can't seem to find it. is there anything that generally breaks loose from this model and year truck that i can narrow down the prob?

let me know if anyone can help with these lame issues for an OCD tacoma driver, they are making me crazy! thanks

    1) Replace all 3 belts.

    2) You will have to get under the truck and start hanging/banging on things and see if something is loose.

About $60 if you get the higher quality ones. easy to replace, I would say yes, just a little time consuming, mainly the ac belt as you have to take the skid plate off to get at the tensioner.
