Seems like Toyota trucks gets a bad rap in media

Everywhere I look, listen and read I hear Tacoma ride is rough, mpg is horrible, interior in plain and dated and even double cab is cramped. ( FTL dork complains he can’t wear his over sized cowboy hat in Tacoma without hitting the roof) take off the hat dork!

Anyway and it’s very similar with the Tundra.

Now I saw the 2018 Tacoma and fell in love with my TRD sport. It looked very masculine as far as mid size trucks go. I get a “wow bad ass truck man” every where I go. It does ride like a TRUCK. DUH thats what I bought. I didn’t buy a Cadillac or a Towne car. It’s plain inside, again it’s a truck not a cruiser. Yes the 3rd gen v6 auto shifting needs work it’s all over the place. I will admit in California traffic mpg is less than desirable and the Tundra is down right obscene, and I’m sure I’ll be joining that club soon with 33” and 6” lift...BUT

They all fail to mention the incredible tank like indestructible, reliability of these trucks. How about the fact that ALL truck values tank after 6 months when the Tacoma holds 75% of its retail value after 3 years ownership (the highest resale value of any vehicle on the market car or truck)
And IF you even want to discuss off-road capabilities the Tacoma is stock ready without upgrades moderate duties. Towing peak at 6,800lbs is fine. I’m not pulling a 2 story house (I’d buy a HD diesel dodge for that) so I just think there’s a bunch of haters in the video media and review journalists that are biased against
    Tacoma’s.

    Still stock completely capable!
I think a big part is Toyota stays out of the pissing matches. All the other company’s like to fight for best mpg, most power, biggest size, most accessories. Toyota is content just building an AMAZING product that they are happy with. This pisses off the other company’s which causes them to lash out and attack Toyota. When there breaking down and blowing heads and other stupid things they like to point out that there vehicles still have better MPG and have apple car play. You can add accessories for a decent price you can’t add relatability for the same price. Wonderful write up and I love the look of the Tacoma as well!!! I will just continue to drive my truck for the next 10+ years and be happy doing so and laugh at the pissing matched the other company’s keep going on ! Everyone has a different opinion mine is this is the best truck I could of possibly found!

As someone who researched and test drove every mid size truck on the market, I decided on the Tacoma, and more so the Sport. It looks the best in my eyes. I actually prefer the ride of the Sport over the others. Now I will admit, for a nice comfortable ride, the Ridgeline was the winner there, but the lower ground clearance and the looks just didn't work for me. When I sat in the colorado the whole feeling was just cheap to me, therefore I didn't even really want to drive it, but did anyway. The Frontier is in a bad need of updates, those buttons/switches on the steering wheel are terrible. Oh well, I got what fit my needs and wants the best, so I really don't care what those reviews say.

The Taco is still rough around the edges, especially on luxury features, when compared to American trucks. Hard to deny that. But there other factors that people consider.

I think the Raptor is a rad truck, tbh. I wouldn't mind having one, but it's not as practical as my Toyota, and practicality was a huge factor for me. My use-case for the truck is not dragging my dirtbikes out on the weekend. My truck is the dirtbike.

It's pretty funny watching all the mid size truck reviews always say the Tacomas suck, and that they better watch out for the newly revamped competition. They said it for the Canyon/Colorado , for the Ridgeline (lol) and now for the Ranger. And yet all the Tacoma does is sell more and more each month. The reason is simple, its capable and reliable, I can count on it getting me to work and home during the week and can count on it on the trails on the weekend while out exploring forest roads and camping. Does it have all the creature comforts and top tech, no, but if you want all that, the Tacoma isn't for you. But I'd much rather have the reliable 4x4.

I'm sure the Ranger will put the more pressure on the Tacoma than its seens in sometime in this segment, which is honestly a good thing.

Id have to agree... it seems to be the "cool" thing to do now days to bash the Tacoma in the media..
Ill admit, I have had my issues with my 18 sport. But the issues have been corrected and it is now just as good as I expected when purchasing it.

Yup, and when you're on top for a long time you tend to go by the " If it ain't broke, dont fix it" and go less risky on things

I was surprised when TFLC chose the frontier over the taco.

My younger brother has a 2014 Frontier that is fairly nice to drive and very reliable , but the interior is like a time machine ... nostalgic for like ten minutes then turns to get me TFO of here. Also fairly noisy but to be expected considered he spent 15k less on his truck. The 4.0 and 5 speed are ideal though and the perfect example of not changing what’s not broke. Not a Nissan fan by any means but the Frontier is a good little truck if you give 0 Fs about appearance or cabin niceties.

It's all fake news, the competition pays media for negative and fake news against Toyota. Media will do anything for $$$, Just disregard...

Auto media is expecting a truck to have all the amenities of a family sedan, the sporty feel of a hot hatch, the fuel economy of an econobox, the features of a luxury import, the interior space of a minivan AND all the functionalities of a pickup truck. Get real for a sec.

Trunks (especially Toyota trucks) are supposed to be a bit rough and clanky but ultimately they're dependable swiss army knives that offer so much more than your average car. Tacomas cost enough as it is, they don't need to dream up of more reasons to jack the price up.

I was at the Ford dealer today for the third recall on my brand new F150 work truck. Saw the new ranger there. Nope. Anyone doubting their choice of the Tacoma, wait until you see the new Ranger in person. For sure it’s superficial, but the new Ranger does not inspire at all to look at it. It may even drive great, but if the quality is like the F150 it is going to be in the shop a lot.

I wouldn't laugh. Toyota's biggest selling point is the long term reliability of their vehicles. The only other company that can even stay in the conversation with Toyota on reliability is Honda. If Honda gets their act together on a body-on-frame, traditional RWD part time 4WD pickup Toyota will sit up and pay attention.

    Coming from a 2000 Wrangler to a 2018 Tacoma, I feel like I'm in a luxury car.

I can push buttons and make my windows go up and down, doors lock and unlock, and adjust my mirrors.

It also has knobs and buttons that will make it cool inside...this is most nice during a Florida summer.

I know most hate the factory tunes, compared to what I had before I love the Entune.

Plus I can drive on the expressway and have a conversation with someone without yelling at each other.

I looked for a Tacoma a year or two old to save a few bucks. It was damn near as cheap to buy a new one, so I did.

They sure seem to be damn popular to be such pieces of shit.
